Even if c/cars doesn't get much use, I think that's a needed offshoot for posts that deal with the tech but not urbanism. Most of the ebike posts I'd want to make don't fit in c/urbanism. Off-site communities for them like r/ebikes are heavily astroturfed by shitty companies selling dangerous bikes to teenagers, as are most of the review sites.

I'm requesting this comm as a space to highlight comrades on this website who have a variety of typically (in the wider world) ignored perspectives.

Even on this website, I sometimes see people assume that all (or close to all) of the users are white, or westerners, or American. We have a hugely diverse user base from around the world, and I think that's a strength of this site. I'd like this comm to be a place where these perspectives are highlighted and amplified, but not a space exclusive to these users. Anyone can participate.

I am requesting this comm to discuss the theory and practice of anti-zionism in depth, including analysis of the latest published theory and works of prominent thinkers in the movement.

  • Why not /c/palestine?
    • I don't want this comm to become another /c/news dedicated to Palestine.
    • I want to discuss anti-zionism not just as it relates to Palestine. Zionism is global and supported by global organizations, our analysis should be equally comprehensive.

After discussion on this post, I think I will try to create a reading list / reading group for relevant theory in an existing comm for now, in order to avoid bringing us further from God's intent (everything being posted in /c/main).

popular culture

For observing and discussion of cultural phenomenon, entertainment, celebrities, internet culture, zeitgeist, etc.

Every newspaper has a culture section. The news comm doesn't like culture/entertainment articles. The chapo comm doesn't like stuff outside of the chapo subculture. People want the gossip comm to be closed. The slop comm is meant for screenshots of stupid internet posts.

Pop culture influences the way that people feel, think, and live their lives.

Pop culture would attract people to the hexbear instance.

c/atheism (thelemmy.club)

Religion in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was dominated by the fact that it became the first state to have as one objective of its official ideology the elimination of existing religion, and the prevention of future implanting of religious belief, with the goal of establishing state atheism (gosateizm).

We should have an official comm for working towards this mission.

Here's why:

c/sailing the seas (hexbear.net)

Essentially c/piracy but without actual piracy per se. I see this has been discussed a few times over the years and never caught on because of hosting issues, which I get. No need to host links to pirate material or tracker links, just discussion of what to do when you're ready to get off the corporate media train. I personally want to discuss how to dump streaming services and get into vseeboxes or IPTV or other things like that. We can call it c/alternatives to streaming or something that you all like I honestly don't care much. Just looking to talk about it without having to sign up for a Reddit account, which should be the sole purpose of this place.

I had a look but couldn't see a community for natureposting. Apologies if I missed it! I want somewhere to post my photos of cool birds and sweetass flowers.

Like local orchids.

Let me be honest and say that this is due to @borschtisgarbo@lemmygrad.ml getting banned for a badly worded anti-Zionist post. I was hoping you'd may be publicly talk over it and reconcile

Original post that got him bannedWhy should I give a shit about anti-Semitism?

The state that exists in your name committed a genocide, of course you're gonna be hated. Most Jews still support Israel, even if there is a vocal pro-Palestinian minority. Don't expect people to not make wide ranging generalisations. Jewish people are by no means oppressed, they have been fully integrated into "whiteness". They are the oppressors, not the oppressed. It's like if your primary concern was whether or not Germans would get pogrom'ed after they did the Holocaust. Completely nonsensical. This constant victim mentality drives me fucking nuts, man. You're not gonna be genocided, so stop acting like it.

Note: welp I think I came off the wrong way with this post, well I'll get out of your hair

Outside of the specific user who was banned I wanted to address meta communities.

The previous attempts at a meta community or even a ban appeal pinned post have caused more drama in each new post as new discussions of the mod actions occur…

Often times restarting contentious discussion where folks are talking past each other and assuming bad faith.

We are available on matrix for people who wish to discuss their ban but ultimately it is very easy to make a hexbear account and as a result very easy to get banned.

This core aspect of site administration has been here since the start and if it wasn’t for the handful of spammers I deny each day I would remove the application entirely.

I’m open to a hexbear user discussion on a meta community but a local user in good standing must apply to be a moderator if a meta community is to be made.

We have been using !feedback@hexbear.net and !hexbear@hexbear.net as meta communities in addition to the Matrix space mentioned in the site sidebar for the past year or so.

c/honeypot would be like bad posting or fake news except every post must be in the style of your typical liberal, with the goal of attracting liberals to the comment section. It would have a display name like "Liberal World News".

I get that some people really love beanis, but the volume of beanis posts in badposting is really overwhelming for others who just don't get it or find it funny.

Since there isn't (to my knowledge) a word-based post blocking feature for individual users, can beanis posting get its own comm so that people don't have to completely block badposting to stop seeing 50 posts of beans dildos and beans in cup holders and shit?

I would like to hear peoples thoughts in these. Currently we have gotten approval from Dessalines to host these comms on Lemmy (to also include blahaj) but obviously I would prefer them here because of our pronouns features and so on.

Basic rules for transgender surgeries comm: Posts must be posted on a fresh account, identifying information such as tattoos and face must be blurred or pixelated.

We will probably also work on mirroring the transgender surgeries subreddit and hosting the former wiki there on a cryptpad on artemislena.eu

The community will also be hidden unless subscribed to to prevent sudden genitalia reveals.

If you are interested in modding one of these places please let me know.

For the sort of heavy, emotionally charged self posts that often get deleted by the mods when they’re posted in /c/chat. Should have an automatic NSFW tag for that reason.

Will need someone else to volunteer to moderate because I just can’t.

Requesting this to post, compile, and find clothing, shoes, objects and alternatives to things, etc. that are vegan as well as plastic free. A focus on affordability will be included, but obviously thats a hard ask in this shit world. This is something I'm researching a lot on and want some place that isnt on reddit to discuss it with people. Plastic free clothing and furnishings can help people that have skin allergy issues, immune issues, and help reduce microplastic ingestion (which is proven to be harmful)

Since I'm mulling around with my quitting smoking/vaping journey and dealing with false-starts and the like I looked around to find said comm and see we don't have one. Given we have drugs, perhaps we could have one for people who are sober or looking to be?

I'd offer to moderate too since I have time under my belt from abstaining from alcohol and I'm versed in the world of rehabs, AA, addiction, etc.

Let me know what y'all think.

c/ageofsigmarxism (hexbear.net)

Looking to create a Warhammer specific space on here. This would be for 40k, Age of Sigmar, Horus Heresy, and Old World. Practically anything prefaced with "Warhammer" really. There's a really large interest in Warhammer on this site and I figured having a place to discuss it or post our armies would be worth the time of day. Plus it's my obsession and I'd keep it running well.

C/Trans_Synths (thelemmy.club)

I can be moderator for the comm; I created a starter pack and feed on Bluesky for this, and seeing as how things are going over there, I figured I would want to make a space for trans folks making electronic music, guitar pedals, audio hardware and software; the trans DJs, producers, etc. A space for everyone and anyone trans in the electronic music sphere to share their music, to support each other, to collaborate.

The Bluesky starter pack has around 125 members, so I'm sure there will be interest in this over here too.

Inspiration for the starter pack and why this is specifically a thing that should exist: https://youtu.be/OiT7yo3qo2o Red Means Recording YouTube video, "Your Synthesizer is Trans (and Other Stories)"
