A comm to post the cutest pics/videos/links/stories you can find, and that’s pretty much it. Could be pets, wild animals, people, happy stories, etc. It will be a designated positive space and positivity/kindness will be continuously enforced in order to keep it that way. I would be happy to mod it and add anyone else who is qualified and interested. Ultimate goal of the comm is to provide balance to the negative stuff we’re used to seeing and put content on the front page that can brighten someone’s day.

I want a space that's made just for posts from leftist tiktoks, or videos that fit the rough format and time length of these.

I might be willing to mod it and throw a video at it once a day or so. It's not like this content will literally ever dry up.

Mainly I want to find more things to follow that might not necessarily be recommended to me by the algo but might be recommend to someone else by their algo and I think that necessarily needs a space that's NOT tiktok to find that in.

Also tiktok comments kinda suck and directing more hexbears into them might be good.

Per @[email protected]'s suggestion in the thread announcing the closure of the tank comms I am suggesting a replacement comm

The concept of the comm is that it would be exactly the same as the_dunk_tank but without the unfortunate racist connotations of the name. Also, the name actually describes the content that is intended for it. Not sure why we made it any more complicated than that in the first place. Also, you can post things like articles from The Atlantic, which are also notable, and not just stuff about famous people.

Also, we should just go ahead and unlock Dredge_Tank

introduction
I was inspired to make the request followning this little interaction
I like hexbear and I like the community here, most of the time. Generally. I guess I like it too much, because I'm on here a lot.
I just enjoy the fact that I do not need to hold my tongue here, I don't get odd glances when I say it's funny a bunch of redditors volunteering in Ukraine got hit with missiles because they couldn't log off. I don't have to condemn hamas, I don't have to pretend like genocide is nuanced, I don't have to constantly deprogram people from obvious propaganda.
One thing I don't really find I discuss on here is conspiracy theories though. It's not that the site is unwelcoming for it, they show up from time to time, but there's no dedicated place for it. I think it would be nice to have that. Sometimes I go through old posts and it's wild to me how much suspicious stuff we find, but never really compile. Once in a while we compile things like this about the Uyghur genocide but they tend to disappear too. Same goes for individual users efforts like @[email protected]s great little comment compiling a few articles about the US drug trade disappear too, either because they are forgotten or because the user deletes their comments. I know @[email protected] has had several accounts doing immense amounts of work debunking "common knowledge" and I've seen him get called a conspiracy theorist plenty of times.

My motivation for it being specifically a conspiracy comm
I'd like to have a comm that's dedicated to discussing and compiling these things, so it's not just something that shows up once in a while in a comment chain and is then gone and forgotten. I'd like for it to be a resource we can all use and maybe also something that forces us to investigate our own beliefs from time to time. I know at least one user has made some effortposts about 9/11 that made me question my own worldview.
The comm would be a place to discuss and ask about things that are treated as conspiracies, actual conspiracies and things users find suspicious in general (for example the POC man who got lynched this year)

What's important to me about making a dedicated comm is that on all other websites communities dedicated to these kinds of discussions end up being incredibly reactionairy. Everywhere else conspiracy communities inevitably (and almost immediately) decend into discussions about lemuria, planet x and all bad things are blamed on DA JOOS. That sucks.

I'd like to be able to talk about actual conspiracies too, the ones we might not agree on. Things like the Brabrant killers, ISIS' connections to the US, MK Ultra, Operation Gladio today, Adrian Zenz, Jeffrey Epstein and actual possible pedophile rings, Bohemian Grove and, yes, the deep state (here I'm thinking of things like the son of one of the orchestrators of The Business Plot becoming US President).

for you who think believing/caring about conspiracies is sillyIf you're against the idea of conspiracy theories, consider the following: The idea that political activists are disappeared is seen as a conspiracy despite things like ferguson leaders dying. The "Uyghur genocide" being cooked up by the US state department is seen as a conspiracy zenz. Think of all the coups that were called conspiracies. epstein not killing himself is a joke.
The Nord Stream Pipeline being blown up by the US is a conspiracy. People being tortured at a black site by Chicago PD was a conspiracy until it wasn't. Hell, Ukraine being full of nazis and corrupt is treated like a conspiracy.

for you who thinks this just sounds like regular discussionsIf you're thinking "well that just sounds like the news comm, you're just discussing world events" I'd say I can see where you're coming from, since you're a strawman I've built with my own words, but I also disagree. The purpose of the comm is not to discuss current events, but to compile all the many news reports that are then forgotten. We like to say libs have a memory of about 2 years, the purpose of this comm would be to draw on the large memory of our brave powerposters... I dunno, I had good words in my brain but they disappeared at the keyboard.

I'd like to mod it and I'd like help to mod it as well. I can imagine there would be a demand of certain subjects being off limits and I'd be fine with that within reason. I don't really wanna have a flat earth society showing up either and I don't think chemtrails would be welcome either, though that one is closer to being founded in someone being critical of the government at least.

Tl;dr I think it would be useful and good. We all individually have to run around with our own bookmarks debunking various claims that are treated as conspiracies. This could function as a compiler. We all still have a bunch of stuff we consider common knowledge that is actually just propaganda/psy-ops. It would be healthy for us to have a place to get challenged on that common knowledge. A conspiracy community on hexbear would also function as a safe space that could invite in new users that are interested in conspiracies, but don't wanna hear racists reactionairy drivel or talk about flat earth.

the point of the community is to avoid speaking english and to post translations to english only in spoilers in any post or comment.

any person with any language can post on any topic, article, etc. not in english on this comm.

any person that speaks a language other than english can become a mod of the comm.

Comm to talk about magic the gathering. I formed a discord server for hexbears to talk magic before, but some people prefer matrix, and we're generally too different in timezones for a discord to be appropriate. I would like to discuss the game and share resources for playing the game cheaply/for free.

I should have enough time to mod this myself.

Comm for disabled comrades to talk about our disabilities, disability justice, accessibility and the lack thereof, disability as it relates to revolutionary politics, ableism in communist spaces, and everything else that relates to disability.

I have extremely limited energy but I can be a mod for this comm if I have help. I think a c/disabled megathread would also be a good thing to have.

I don't speak Esperanto yet but I think it might be a good thing to have a community for, given the language's internationalist nature and its historical connections to left-wing politics. If you look for federated Esperanto communities, one of them is basically locked because they moved instances, and the other is dead as a doornail.

An Esperanto comm could be used to talk about Esperanto history and culture and news from Esperantujo, or help people learn the language, or people could discuss language politics, et cetera, all in Esperanto. Hexbear does have that weird thing where it won't let you post if you say that your post is in a language other than English, though.

An alternative might be to see if there are any Esperantist instances we can federate with.

A community to discuss and oppose the USA's cultural imperialism, a bit like the .ml community NoYank, except with a better ideological basis and less reactionary mod. The name is just a suggestion and the exact scope can still be worked out.

Obviously it's not a good name so something like /c/hiphop would be good or honestly any other name people can think of. /c/music exists but some of us were talking about it during a movie night and we think /c/music is a little too general especially with how much regional difference there is in rap. I would be down to be a mod for it, I'm not sure if the other people who were a part of the convo would want to be mods.

I actually do appreciate rule 8 in the_dunk_tank. People seem to struggle with the rule a bit too much, and I'm afraid that mods are bored of removing rule 8 related posts. Could we just have a community for low tier bullshit that rule 8 fans can block?

Ya posting directly to [email protected] is a good rule and makes sense, but people don't seem to be able to follow it.

Heck I'll even mod the community if you make it.

Thanks

stalin-heart

Having a dedicated space to this would be nice. Currently if you want DIY resources you need to search for it and find the old threads, like the resource thread by u/quartz242, or the thread I made. Discussion around DIY is very scattered, rarely in posts, and some in random threads. Having all of it contained in one place would be better.

I think we should have a feminism comm dedicated to feminist theory, women's issues, etc. There's already feminist discussions on Hexbear fairly frequently, so I foresee there being enough activity to warrant a community. However, @thelastaxolotl suggested just reusing c/womenby when I brought this up last month, so here's my formal request for either a feminism community or the reopening of c/womenby.

...also how do we nominate mods?

submitted 5 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

It would almost certainly be a community with very few if not zero active posters, and there's already a few relevant communities on .world, and nothing's stopping people from posting d/Deaf or HoH-related content on other communities... But even keeping all that in mind, I still think having a /c/deaf would be nice anyways.

The community could also be called /c/dhoh or something else entirely, it depends on what people prefer.

As the title says. I am willing to moderate it if need be, but I suppose there is better comrades out there for that job.

edit: also if 'eugene' style memes can get banned there for being """tankie adjacent""" we need a piracy comm on Hexbear.

It would be cool to have a place for people to share their dreams. Dream journaling is a great way to reflect and possibly draw inspiration. Whether or not your dreams have anything important to say about your waking life and your subconscious is up for debate. Dream journaling is fun and can help develop your ability to lucid dream, which is amazing and if you haven’t tried to develop the ability, you should.

For those that believe dreams are a way to understand our subconscious this could be a great place to discuss and ask for input.

Last night I had a nightmare me and some friends were at this cafe in like this Venice-style canal city. There was like a swim up bar below us in the water. A pack of four orcas entered the canals…and yeah absolutely terrifying but definitely a memorable one.

There are many barriers that disallow comrades from getting unbiased input from a medical professional, and I think this comm could provide that access. I have seen some thoroughly uninformed medical takes here, and this could serve as a place for people who want research-backed answers to their medical questions. Would also be a place to post advancements in medicine, changes in medical policy, etc

I know there is already /c/drugs but that is primarily aimed at recreational use and harm reduction.

Unsure if we would be required to label the comm "This is not medical advice", while still providing it.

It's fine if the dunk tank doesn't want to be a place where we get mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, I love that for them. But for those of us who LIKE getting mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, we need a containment zone for those kinds of posts, otherwise folks are just going to get shit removed from dunk tank / cth / main all the time.

Enter, chapodunkhouse. It's exactly the same as the dunk tank, except we can keep dunking on folks whose opinions don't matter to anyone who matters.

I think the rules should be:

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow chapos.

Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances' admins or moderators.

Anyway I'm happy to mod this with anyone else who wants to mod this, including any of the mods of the dunk tank since they already are doing a great job moderating it outside of the new Rule 8.

Also yes this is a serious comm request I'm not shitposting. I like dunking on random libs and I know lots of others do too.

Hasan Piker has long been an ally of the chapo community. I think there's a lot of overlap between our spaces.
