What on earth do you wear to a christening?
The latex bodysuit is entirely inappropriate. Work backwards from there.
Church really isn't any fun.
There's definitely nothing there for me.
Dress up as Jesus. Bring a giant cross. Shows the family you take it seriously.
slam dunk the baby into the font and scream THOU ART SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVED
Chinos, button up shirt, dress shoes.
How close are you with the parents? Distant relatives, less formal. Close family and friends, more formal.
It's for my niece. But I am the odd duck going through shit so I could probably get away with the unshaven, trackie bums and stained t-shirt. I may as well milk everything I'm going through.
Strategically, if you show up looking like a bum, it may prevent you being invited in the future. Not a bad thing, depends on the situation.
I also have the living in a different state excuse. Having a backup plan is a good idea
church clothes. Neat casual, on the slightly fancier side. Think a restaurant dinner with grandma for her 80th.

Suit and tie or dress trousers and contrasting blazer, possibly tie? Preferably not black.
Mind you, last time I went to a christening was in the nineties.
I’ve actually got one coming up in a few weeks.
You could go a bit formal suit and tie. I’m just going to go in smart casual though but I think from memory last time quite a bit of the family dressed up very big for it.
