524522 Zoozve

This asteroid is smaller than a kilometre and it's unique in that its a quasi-satellite of Venus, because while it orbits the sun its orbit is the same length as Venus and roughly aligned, meaning that it follows it like a long distance shadow. Zoozve is known to be very elongated too.

My fav thing about Zoozve itself is the cute origin of its name: A podcast host's kid had a solar system poster on their wall with a moon of Venus labeled, and contacted NASA confused about it because no 'moons' of Venus were known to exist. He called it Zoozve but it was a misinterpretation of 2002 VE (a more typical name for an asteroid). https://radiolab.org/podcast/zoozve And this eventually led to the asteroid being formally named Zoozve.

Every ~8 years it makes a close approach to earth, roughly ~0.05 AU (from wikipedia), and the next approach like this is today November 2 2026! Hoping it gets another observation and maybe more is discovered about it.

Post image is an animation of Zoozve's orbit as well as earth/venus/mercury around the sun, showing that while it orbits the sun its always near to venus, orbiting it in essence. Header image in the body of the post is a gif of a few photographs of Zoozve moving against the celestial background of stars, it appears as a white streak. Second body image is a crop of 2002VE as it appears on the child's space poster, where the twos are easily mistakable for zeds.

I loved being a child. I wish I could go back.

Being an adult sucks. Especially because of this.

Really? I hated being a kid the entire time I was. I hated being told what to do. I still had the news and the internet in the 00s, it wasnt like I was unaware the world was shitty.

Not having responsibilities was nice but theyve never been all that bad for me. What, I have to do dishes, wash your clothes, work a job, pay rent? Its never felt all that onerous in exchange for control over my life

Yes. I distinctly remember telling my parents many times I didn't want to grow up. I was dreadful and fearful of being an adult. I wasn't super online until maybe 14 or 15, I didn't know much outside of our bubble before then.

That's a lot for me. And there is more.

I liked being a kit. I was interested in all kinds of things and played in my room a lot lol. Everything was simple. I wasn't stressed. School was largely easy. I read a lot and enjoyed it. I played pretend. I played my DS and wii. I really did like it and remember how much I have hated watching it slip away. My parents weren't too overbearing. Perhaps a bit too much so.

Obviously trans stuff, I was fine with my body. That's a big one. A year on hrt and it's still a huge negative. But even that aside I liked childhood and wish I could go back. And at the time, I knew I wanted to stay.

How much control do I have over my life now? Get up, ready for work, travel to work, work, travel back, eat, then get a few hours before doing it again. That's hell. I had way more time to myself as a child. That's no autonomy or control. Being a wage slave adult. Everything is fucking money and time. I didn't have any of this as a kid.

As a kid, I was always hearing from adults that being a kid is so much better, and when we grew up we’d be wishing for our kid problems back. I didn’t believe them, but they were sure time would prove them right.

Even if I weren’t trans, they would have been wrong, but including transition, they were so wrong it makes me angry. Never understood what I was supposed to have liked about being a kid.

Being a child sucks so bad, you work hard and then get no choices on how to spend your time. Dont wanna go to church? too bad. Dont want to go to a family gathering? too bad. you want to choose your haircut? too bad. you want to go somewhere? too bad. now when I have a rough day at work I get to choose how I spend my time. when I choose to help someone its because I want to, not because I was threatened with punishments.

This but also when apologizing in good faith.

Forcing a kid to apologize accomplishs nothing.
