I saw Resident Evil with a girl Id been on a bunch of dates with! She never played the games and only saw a couple of the movies in the 00s.

I liked it, apparently theres a subset of RE fans that hate it because it doesnt have Leon or whatever in it. I dunno, it fit the vibe of the games to me and it borrowed some tone stuff from the previous movies. I thought it felt a little too close to like playing a game, there were a few first person shots that were a little goofy. Some of the cinematography like the RV scene actually was great, or the brake lights on the snow. I liked that it wasnt afraid to be comedic and campy, because like it or not its fucking Resident Evil Jill Sandwhich, Leon Quips, Ethan reattaching fingers with a first aid kit, etc. Some of the scares got me lol

We both agree it feels like two movies stitched together, first half was "grounded" (for Resident Evil) and pretty spooky. Second half had more of the camp, body horror, sci fi stuff and wasnt as scary. I was very happy with both. There were some parts I wonder why they kept in at all, like very early (not really a spoiler) the main character forging a nurses signature and saying her name? I cant recall it but I remember after the movie wishing theyd have cut that in favour of more in the hospital.

Also before that we went to a corn maze and petting zoo, that was fun
