I love waffles :3 easily my favorite breakfast food. Developing different recipes has been so much fun! Lately I've been having one with lots of ground flaxseed and it has been keeping me quite regular. I'll have one or two of those in the morning with some tofu breakfast/lunch "meat" and a bit of cheapo syrup. There also was a version with pea protein powder that worked out pretty well but I neglected to write down the recipe, oops.

Vegan waffle recipe

Makes 4-5 "standard" belgian waffles, actual amount will vary based on what kind of waffle iron you use.

Equipment

2 bowls, preferably with pouring spouts

Whisk

Measuring cups and spoons

Waffle Iron

Optional: Using a rubber spatula/scraper will help when pouring the batter into the waffle iron.

Dry mix:

1 cup white flour

2-3 tablespoons ground flaxseed

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

Optional: 1-2 teaspoon powdered cinnamon or blend of "sweet" spices.

Wet ingredients:

1 cup plant milk (see notes)

1 tablespoon neutral tasting cooking oil

Optional: 1/2 tablespoon breakfast syrup or granulated sugar will add some flavor and improve the texture of the crust.

Instructions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl until combined, set aside

  2. In a seperate bowl, preferably one with a pouring spout, whisk the wet ingredients together vigorously, if using granulated sugar whisk until it is dissolved.

  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredient bowl and mix until combined but still slightly lumpy. Allow the batter to sit for at least five minutes so the flaxseed can hydrate.

  4. Make the waffles, portions and waffle iron operation will vary. Consult the manual or wing it carefully.

Notes:

  • This recipe may take longer to cook fully compared to other mixes. Ultimately the steam produced by the cooking process is always an accurate indicator of doneness.

  • The dry mix can be made well ahead of time, a double batch fits nicely into a 32 oz deli container.

  • Adjusting the amount of plant milk will make the waffles more or less dense, experiment and adjust to preferences. 2/3 cup dry mix to 1/2 cup wet mix (or 1 cup to 3/4 cup) is my preferred ratio.

  • The batter keeps well overnight if refrigerated in an airtight container but you will need to add a little more liquid and stir thoroughly because it will be very thick.

  • The batter dries like cement, wash the bowl immediately after using.

I don't think we can say much about the natural state of people nor the logical state, and even if poly was we're humans who arent bound by natural or logical state.

I can appreciate monogamy as default as being harmful, I think its a bit overwrought to say that but I get it. As the hegemonic default, a lot is negotiated and more or less thats because people know the script for it - don't cheat on your partner, but what cheating means can be stretchy and culturally coded. Some people think an emotional affair and a smooch is serious, some think it only crosses the line with sex, whatever. That could use some negotiating and communication - but also, dont cheat on your monogamous partner and if you cant, then dont partner uo monogamously. I dont get the harm in 2026 where you cant just sow your wild oats as a single person but everyones making you be monogamous with a partner except you also wanna still hit on other people? That part feels very overwrought. I could definitely see monogamy as an institution be historically harmful and oppressive but get real for today in the hegemonic society - you dont need to be paired up.

I still dont think its a kink nor invasive, I think thats still very silly framing. Its a kink as much as poly is (to me, not at all). Its just a way people have relationships.

okay you can agree with me on what to classify monogamy as, i think its basically kink but if you believe its not then like whatever lol its just a label anyhow

but saying that monogamy is "historically harmful and oppressive" but it somehow magically isnt now and to just "get real" is a wild statement and just,,, completely ignores literally every aspect of modern society and the oppression queer people and women face?

'i could see cisheteronormativity as an institution being historically homophobic and oppressive but get real for today in the hegemonic society - you dont need to be in a straight relationship' like are we for real?

"hegemonic society" is literally built upon forcing people into cisheteronormative monogamous relationships and having them be "paired up", and systemically oppresses anybody who doesnt fit that mold

"hegemonic society" upholds men treating women like property, and societal enforcement of monogamy is an extension of that as it is essentially treating your partner as property

even if the majority of people are legitimately monogamous (which i find to be a dubious claim) that doesnt remove the negative aspects of it as a societal institution any more than most people being cis (equally dubious claim btw) doesnt remove harm to trans people

this is also completely disregarding polyamory and equating it with just not being in a relationship but being sexually active, which is just wrong

"what cheating means can be stretchy and culturally coded. ... That could use some negotiating and communication - but also, dont cheat on your monogamous partner and if you cant, then dont partner uo monogamously" if only the main point i made in my post was that monogamy as a societal institution discourages negotiation and communication in that regard or something,,,

    get real

old post, rewriting it to make it easier to read"i have sole control over your parts of your body and who you can and cant share it with and will apply my version of what this means to everyone i meet without even discussing it" please explain how this isnt kink or invasive lol

you are taking me saying "monogamy is kink" to mean "monogamy is inherently harmful and bad" when what i said is "monogamy is often undernegotiated and that leads to people harming/abusing eachother" clearly it isnt properly negotiated because gestures broadly at 90% of cishet marriages and straight people on twitter complaining about "emotional cheating"

acting like monogamy is "historically harmful" and that it doesnt cause any harm now and just to "get real" is,,,,, whar? this is like if a gay person was complaining about heteronormativity and you went "well heteronormativity was historically harmful but now you can just be gay and go be in relationships with gay people get real smh"

famously there is no overlap between being queer and being polyamorous,, and famously polyamorous people have never ever been oppressed ever in the history of ever

and famously theres absolutely zero societal pressure to be in a monogamous relationship as part of cisheteronormativity, and theres absolutely no pressure to be "paired up"! famously society doesnt pressure people to do these things ever and thats just such a "historical" thing. famously misogyny isnt a real thing and men definitely dont treat women as property, and the popular concept of monogamy clearly isnt treating your partner as property.

hegemonic society would never pressure people into cishet monogamous relationships, and it would certainly never systemically oppress anybody who doesnt conform to the societal standard of what is to be expected of a relationship

    get real
