I love waffles :3 easily my favorite breakfast food. Developing different recipes has been so much fun! Lately I've been having one with lots of ground flaxseed and it has been keeping me quite regular. I'll have one or two of those in the morning with some tofu breakfast/lunch "meat" and a bit of cheapo syrup. There also was a version with pea protein powder that worked out pretty well but I neglected to write down the recipe, oops.

Vegan waffle recipe

Makes 4-5 "standard" belgian waffles, actual amount will vary based on what kind of waffle iron you use.

Equipment

2 bowls, preferably with pouring spouts

Whisk

Measuring cups and spoons

Waffle Iron

Optional: Using a rubber spatula/scraper will help when pouring the batter into the waffle iron.

Dry mix:

1 cup white flour

2-3 tablespoons ground flaxseed

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

Optional: 1-2 teaspoon powdered cinnamon or blend of "sweet" spices.

Wet ingredients:

1 cup plant milk (see notes)

1 tablespoon neutral tasting cooking oil

Optional: 1/2 tablespoon breakfast syrup or granulated sugar will add some flavor and improve the texture of the crust.

Instructions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl until combined, set aside

  2. In a seperate bowl, preferably one with a pouring spout, whisk the wet ingredients together vigorously, if using granulated sugar whisk until it is dissolved.

  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredient bowl and mix until combined but still slightly lumpy. Allow the batter to sit for at least five minutes so the flaxseed can hydrate.

  4. Make the waffles, portions and waffle iron operation will vary. Consult the manual or wing it carefully.

Notes:

  • This recipe may take longer to cook fully compared to other mixes. Ultimately the steam produced by the cooking process is always an accurate indicator of doneness.

  • The dry mix can be made well ahead of time, a double batch fits nicely into a 32 oz deli container.

  • Adjusting the amount of plant milk will make the waffles more or less dense, experiment and adjust to preferences. 2/3 cup dry mix to 1/2 cup wet mix (or 1 cup to 3/4 cup) is my preferred ratio.

  • The batter keeps well overnight if refrigerated in an airtight container but you will need to add a little more liquid and stir thoroughly because it will be very thick.

  • The batter dries like cement, wash the bowl immediately after using.

the term "ethical non monogamy" is really silly to me

if anything people need to specify that their monogamy is ethical

"i own my partner and their body and they can only do certain things with me specifically" this is literally just kink, cheating isnt real

i would argue the majority of monogamous relationships arent ethical

"i have the right to control your actions without your explicit consent and to get angry when you dont go along with it" very ethical not abusive statements dreamed up by the utterly mundane

Oh poly people can still find ways to cheat, it might sound impossible but they definitely can and have!

Ive dated monogamously and poly, and I think youre joking or whatever but monogamy definitely isnt just a kink you goober

im only half serious, and the reason its only half is because our society is structured around monogamy and as such people assuming it as default is to be expected

however, monogamy is still literally just a kink

my entire serious statement is the following:

the concept of monogamy is an extremely invasive kink that is often extremely undernegotiated to the point of harm/abuse and has been forced upon the majority of society without their consent in part by the patriarchy in order to empower mens control over women in every facet of life

"polyamory by default" is the natural logical state that things should be in, and what exactly that means for a given person and their partner(s) is between them and their partner(s) so long as everything is properly communicated and consented to and agreed upon boundaries are put up and followed

Yea, the specifying is always a bit funny to me too.

i have the right to control your actions without your explicit consent

Wait are most couples really not talking through boundaries and what they're comfortable with and want in a relationship and making it explicit what boundries are what before getting upset

yes thats like the whole deal with monogamy lol, its a wordless arrangement thats expected by default (which is already extremely abusive imo) and what is and isnt "allowed" varies from person to person

its a very invasive agreement between two people where they get a strong degree of control over their partner even when not present, its literally just kink

the problem is the kink has been forced upon every living soul in existence* and theres no negotiations, agreements, communication, or anything else necessary for healthy kink

    * historically its been mostly applied to women, men can have as many wives as they want, im sure theres not an overarching patriarchy that could explain why monogamy is so prevalent or anything thinkin-lenin

what is and isnt "allowed" varies from person to person

I mean yea, I suppose this is why I'd expect people to talk about it. Although my being in queer communities has shown me how wide people expectations can be and that definitely played a role in us making sure we were on the same page. I guess a lot of it seems "obvious" to your average mono person, but there's still lots of room. I have seen men get upset over the most bizarre "cheating".

    theres no negotiations, agreements, communication

damn the straights are not okay
