I love waffles :3 easily my favorite breakfast food. Developing different recipes has been so much fun! Lately I've been having one with lots of ground flaxseed and it has been keeping me quite regular. I'll have one or two of those in the morning with some tofu breakfast/lunch "meat" and a bit of cheapo syrup. There also was a version with pea protein powder that worked out pretty well but I neglected to write down the recipe, oops.

Vegan waffle recipe

Makes 4-5 "standard" belgian waffles, actual amount will vary based on what kind of waffle iron you use.

Equipment

2 bowls, preferably with pouring spouts

Whisk

Measuring cups and spoons

Waffle Iron

Optional: Using a rubber spatula/scraper will help when pouring the batter into the waffle iron.

Dry mix:

1 cup white flour

2-3 tablespoons ground flaxseed

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

Optional: 1-2 teaspoon powdered cinnamon or blend of "sweet" spices.

Wet ingredients:

1 cup plant milk (see notes)

1 tablespoon neutral tasting cooking oil

Optional: 1/2 tablespoon breakfast syrup or granulated sugar will add some flavor and improve the texture of the crust.

Instructions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl until combined, set aside

  2. In a seperate bowl, preferably one with a pouring spout, whisk the wet ingredients together vigorously, if using granulated sugar whisk until it is dissolved.

  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredient bowl and mix until combined but still slightly lumpy. Allow the batter to sit for at least five minutes so the flaxseed can hydrate.

  4. Make the waffles, portions and waffle iron operation will vary. Consult the manual or wing it carefully.

Notes:

  • This recipe may take longer to cook fully compared to other mixes. Ultimately the steam produced by the cooking process is always an accurate indicator of doneness.

  • The dry mix can be made well ahead of time, a double batch fits nicely into a 32 oz deli container.

  • Adjusting the amount of plant milk will make the waffles more or less dense, experiment and adjust to preferences. 2/3 cup dry mix to 1/2 cup wet mix (or 1 cup to 3/4 cup) is my preferred ratio.

  • The batter keeps well overnight if refrigerated in an airtight container but you will need to add a little more liquid and stir thoroughly because it will be very thick.

  • The batter dries like cement, wash the bowl immediately after using.

hopelessIts been 2 and a half years since I accepted that I was trans. Almost 1 year hrt.

I still can't accept that I'm trans, society, my body, I still haven't voice trained or done hardly anything with my presentation. I'm still insanely depressed.

Its so long. I remember first cracking and thinking that was so long. I don't really have hope on the horizon for being okay with this.

I make a lot of posts like this but I never feel resolved in this. How can I feel resolved about my place in society, about transition, my body, everything. I can't accept literally any of this.

Good lord. What a waste of time. My life has been nothing but an utter waste. Sorry for being here.

spoilerI know its difficult for you, but you are going to have to train. I also know others have said your voice is quite nice as is, I dont know but I think Ill take their opinion over yours because it is quite muddled by dysphoria - regardless that means you have a very good starting point. You are just going to have to train if you want to feel better about your voice, it will probably make you feel bad because it is uncomfortable and it means focusing on a part of yourself you feel intense dysphoria about. Theres no pill for it, there is a surgery - but even the surgery for it requires some training. You've tried the technique of training a bit but stopping when you feel too uncomfortable, has that got you closer to your goals? Are you happier for it? If not, time to try something new and time to get uncomfortable (to put it lightly) and voice train. You have to start, eggnog.

The treatment for gender dysphoria is transition. You have to start transitioning socially, publically, or else it will contribute to you feeling depressed. You've tried going slowly and quite sporadically in girl mode for a year now, if you're not happy with where you are then Im going to suggest you start transitioning socially and see if thats better. You're in what is presumably a better more accepting place, now. It is time.

I know you moved and are looking for work - that part is hard, all your previous irl social life got changed and obviously money troubles suck. I think if you make a good effort to meet in real life with people you will feel better. Seek a trans support group locally, meet with them, make some friends who have a better idea what you're going through - and start going to places en femme (bring a change of clothes in a back pack if you have to). The alternative is doing what youve been doing and you've been very explicit that the status quo is not working for you and youve felt miserable. It is time, now, to start changing that.

thank you for pushing meI do need to. I will start when my family is gone. Which isn't often but I can try. No, I'm not closer to my goals.

I really have no one to transition to but my family who I don't think would want me transitioning in their house. I need a job, apartment, and transport. Then I can. I'll try to change it. I do want trans/queer friends irl.

Thank you Terminal. I always appreciate you. I hope when I am able to get those three things, I can find friends and do the things and it is helpful for me the way it needs to be. Thank you for pushing me.

spoilerI agree with terminal, but also feel the same with having to gtfo before being happy. Family sucks, you can't choose them, and sometimes they make you miserable, but hold on, you'll get through it and get a better one that you chose
