She was a vice president of business selection and conflicts at the bank. Not The vice president of the bank.

Before anyone gets too excited.

It's important to remember that banks hand out vice president titles like business cards. It makes the vice president feel important and gives customers someone with a splashy title to yell at.

Lol I was literally today just dealing with a bank integration at work and noticed the tech support guy I was working with was a VP. Your comment was perfectly timed for me, because I was like "wtf why is the guy talking to me about PGP keys a freaking Vice President?!”

From what I've heard of this story, a woman who had a history of mental issues stabbed a random man getting out of the subway and then went and stabbed this woman. Her position at a bank is nothing more than attention grabbing headlines.

Just a heads up, if you look into this at all you'll probably come across the video of the stabber being shot and killed.

Saw it. Felt like this was suicide by cop.

To add to this, she might have been just another cog. I don't know how BofA titles work, but I have known people with a VP title that had no one reporting to them and had no decision making authority.

She was a vice president of business selection and conflicts

She was a specialist in "conflicts" and she got conflict there in Times Square. Failed to resolve the conflict miserably.

From what I was able to discern, the CEO of UHC was really just a nepo frat boy selected by the board. He had no special skill or talent, other than looking like another white man in a suit and selecting multiple choice answers about what to do in the company.

Straight from Central Casting, if you will.

What exactly do you think the CEOs of large corps do? Make sound decisions based on their experience in the trenches of their industry? Ha! Their entire role is to be a frat boy, party (aka "network") with other CEOs, allow the board/private equity to make dumbass decisions that'll tank the company, then take the fall when those decisions inevitably lead to problems. Nepo baby is a legit resume booster because it means you were born with more connections than most people will ever have.

I've worked with a lot of CEOs and while a lot of them are as you describe, many of them are smart and have a good handle on what their company does. And too many of them are afflicted with varying degrees of sociopathy.

Worked with CEOs of what size companies? Small business CEOs definitely need to know their shit and put in the work. Enterprise CEOs need to look good in press conferences and have books full of billionaires.

Isn’t that how it works though? You have the president, and then multiple vice presidents with their own responsibilities? Vice president of lending, vice president of marketing, etc?

Yes, but banks go the extreme and hand out the title like candy. It's way easier to become a VP at a bank than other companies.

Do banks even give out candy anymore? It's a sad day when the only Dum-Dums at the company are wearing suits.

Most just in the US. When I worked at an American company, even some tech support folks were given Vice President titles because it apparently makes customers happy to be talking to a VP.

I'm pretty sure at BofA, it's not that high level

A manager manages a small team, a director manages several managers, and then a vice president manages directors. They usually have ~100 people under them, but it can vary widely
