Do Americans not know how fruits work or is it just the Epstein class that doesn't?

[-] BurgerBaron@quokk.au 2 points 4 hours ago

I'm not sure if there's been a good enough study on general "food literacy" to really know but I'd love to see one. Anecdotal so this is fairly worthless info: When I was a teen working at a pizza shop the amount of new hires that rolled through over the years that couldn't recognize some/many of the toppings on sight was alarming to me. I don't know how widespread that scenario is. I figure, at least some kids grow up completely ignorant of what the raw ingredients look like for any food they eat.

It's the rich fucks who have never done their own shopping that didn't understand how shit works.

Like how the pedo in chief thinks you need an id to buy groceries (he's said this multiple times while trying to push for draconian voter id laws)

[-] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 2 points 4 hours ago

Is it about using checks? Does he think people still write checks?

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

It's entirely possible that they know what bananas look like unpeeled, and they know what the inside of a banana looks like on a plate, but they've never seen for themselves how bananas move from one phase to the other.

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

Oh fuck I never considered that. That can't be true, bananas are everywhere in movies and shit right?

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago

They are so far removed from a concrete reality that they've never seen a banana ripen. To the wealthy, all green bananas are bad and gross. The yellow bananas are good, and those are the ones people bring you when you pay them money for a banana, or the ones you see in your wealthy spaces.

For example, a wealthy person who has a fruit bowl on the counter will also have someone who changes the fruit out every day for fruit that is perfectly ripe that day. They may not even know fruit ages until they are well into adulthood and find out accidentally.

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 26 points 14 hours ago

Yeah man, Americans only know hamburgers and corn. Everyone carries a gun and no one can read so fruit is a mystery. You definitely have the right idea about this place.

Stuff like this makes me feel good because it shows that we're not the only country where people are passively brainwashed by the media lol

[-] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Hey hey hey... you forgot pizza.

[-] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Corn. You mean that thing you make gas out of? What's it got to do with groceries? /s

[-] Jiral@lemmy.world -3 points 11 hours ago

Come on, relax. The first part of the comment was rhetoric. It is telling that you comment as if it was meant seriously.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 14 hours ago

Yes. We know. The idiot that said the thing probably knows too.

It’s a sound bite to make Mamdani seem like he’s pushing bad food. That’s it.

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 9 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

You can't really judge a country that large by its top 1% weirdest motherfuckers

[-] BlindPenguin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Well, the voting behaviour didn't really help with that...

[-] lemmy_get_my_coat@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

Yeah but then can that 1% please shut the fuck up and fuck off?

[-] moncharleskey@lemmy.zip 3 points 13 hours ago

Not with social media being owned by the billionaires.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

dudes talking to themself again

[-] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 1 points 12 hours ago

Would that 1% stop voting pedos and idiots in charge?

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works -3 points 14 hours ago

You seem to be under the false impression that most Americans have ever seen a fruit or vegetable.

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 5 points 14 hours ago

I'm not an American myself but I've heard of food deserts aka areas where fresh food isn't available. This context is important because without it, your comment might read as if it's their fault

[-] vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago

American here. Did desserts are very real things.

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Did desserts

Yes. Whatever it was, desserts did.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works -1 points 8 hours ago

I’m impressed that you managed to put a whole sentence together all by yourself! You should be very proud! Did you put your own socks on today too? Wow!
