The moment I remember was when an NBC reporter gave him a textbook softball question: "What do you say to Americans who are scared?". It's a question that any former President or any other world leader would instantly recognize as teeing him up for an inspiring and reassuring speech about Nationhood and courage whilst working in talking points about social distancing, masks, and reaffirming any recent positive news about vaccine development.
His actual reply: "I’d Say That You’re A Terrible Reporter."
It goes further than this. Weeks before COVID, Trump lamented that he didn't have "a Katrina" like Bush. He literally said something along the lines of, "I wish there was a national tragedy that I could take advantage of so that people would re-elect me."
And it was given to him. On a silver platter.
Now, my guess is that if he was given a war or something storm based, he would have had the opportunity to roll out the military or some other fascist bullshit but COVID was a battle of science, something he doesn't believe in.
Thing is, he actually did handle the initial vaccine moves about as well as he could've, apart from maybe a normal human starting earlier whereas he spent awhile mumbling about how he wouldn't let people off a cruise ship and that it would magically disappear in 2 weeks (his TACO timeline for everything in his life). But operation warp speed was the right move in broad strokes. It's only because he'd created a cadre of conspiracy cultists that he was forced to back off rather than suffer the wrath of *gasp! people not filling his botomless empty hole with their adulation 24/7.
You're right that he was handed a silver platter but the even more hilarious (sad) part is he created the platter, filled it with the finest truffles and caviar (or I suppose in his world it'd be big macs), and then as soon as one person said "boo" he threw it all in the trash and stomped off to pout in the corner like he always does as the little piss baby he is.
He's got zero capacity for conscious thought and I'd almost feel bad for him if he hadn't murdered millions of people.
The entire covid outbreak was a golden ticket to a second term and only someone like Trump could take a free win and somehow lose it.
I've been saying it since 2020, but he could have just sat back and let Fauci do his job he's had for 2 decades, the orange-diddler could have continued sucking at golf for several months and likely coasted into a 2nd term.
But no, a massive narcissist who has to make everything about himself and can't fathom the fact Obama is a better president than he'll ever be...
Technically true as in good reporters have critical questions or smth like that
