I consulted the magic conch about random questions relating to my fucked up neck and shoulder (which I still haven't seen a physical therapist for because I'm not capable of running my own life) and it ended up being like "yeah dude btw you're not supposed to put a tempurpedic mattress on anything but an absolutely rigid support" and it's like, oh, really, huh. My parents gave us this old mattress with a split box frame as a support, and while it doesn't seem super springy, it still flexes
Anyway I put the fucker on the floor and holy fucking shit. Oh my god. I forgot how comfort felt. All I've known is pain for months, but after putting the mattress on the floor I could lay in any position, even with my old pillow instead of the cervical support thing I'd been using. Fuckinv christ it's an incredible difference
I really don't know whether to laugh or cry, I've been in so much pain and the solution has been so simple and it could have all just been avoided if my dad gave us the right support for the fucking thing
Anyway PSA DON'T USE A MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS ON ANYTHING BUT A COMPLETELY RIGID FOUNDATION or you'll be visited by the AGONY FAIRY turning your shoulders and neck into gravel
If you live in a humid climate you'll want to keep it off the floor somehow, I created a mold problem once putting a memory foam mattress right on the floor. Now I have some ikea box thing, similar to this but not quite.
I get what you mean, though. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, by far, was one of these things while I was staying in someone's spare room for six months. I've never slept that well before or since, even on thousand dollar mattresses.
Oh yeah, I know mold might be an issue, but thank you. We put it on the floor just for tonight as a temporary "will it make any difference?" measure, because I really wasn't sure if it would. I thought maybe the box spring they'd given us was rigid enough, and I have a habit of thinking of new ways to waste money we don't have, so I didn't wanna buy anything just yet. I kinda thought it wouldn't make a difference, but it definitely did
Thanks for the foundation suggestion, I haven't started shopping around yet (I'm not looking forward to it because it's like, cool, another thing to waste my partner's money on because I'm broke... but at least these things aren't tooooo expensive)
