Fred Hampton, deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, was born on August 30, 1948 and raised in the Chicago suburb of Maywood, Illinois. In high school he excelled in academics and athletics. After Hampton graduated from high school, he enrolled in a pre-law program at Triton Junior College in River Grove, Illinois. Hampton also became involved in the civil rights movement, joining his local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). His dynamic leadership and organizational skills in the branch enabled him to rise to the position of Youth Council President. Hampton mobilized a racially integrated group of five hundred young people who successfully lobbied city officials to create better academic services and recreational facilities for African American children.
In 1968, Hampton joined the Black Panther Party (BPP), headquartered in Oakland, California. Using his NAACP experience, he soon headed the Chicago chapter. During his brief BPP tenure, Hampton formed a “Rainbow Coalition” which included Students for a Democratic Society, the Blackstone Rangers, a street gang and the National Young Lords, a Puerto Rican organization. Hampton was also successful in negotiating a gang truce on local television.
In an effort to neutralize the Chicago BPP, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Chicago Police Department placed the chapter under heavy surveillance and conducted several harassment campaigns. In 1969, several BPP members and police officers were either injured or killed in shootouts, and over one hundred local members of the BPP were arrested.
During an early morning police raid of the BPP headquarters at 2337 W. Monroe Street on December 4, 1969, twelve officers opened fire, killing the 21-year-old Hampton and Peoria, Illinois Panther leader Mark Clark. Police also seriously wounded four other Panther members. Many in the Chicago African American community were outraged over the raid and what they saw as the unnecessary deaths of Hampton and Clark. Over 5,000 people attended Hampton’s funeral where Reverends Ralph Abernathy and Jesse Jackson of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference eulogized the slain activist. Years later, law enforcement officials admitted wrongdoing in the killing of Hampton and Clark. In 1990, and later in 2004, the Chicago City Council passed resolutions commemorating December 4 as Fred Hampton Day.

Cut my thumb really badly, worst i've ever cut myself, the chef didn't think I needed stitches but also said he's not a doctor. I think i cut to the bone, on the knuckle. The bleeding stopped again but i cut myself like two hours ago and like 30 minutes ago it went from not bleeding to bleeding profusely
I'm really worried I need stitches and I'm trying not to freak out because i don't have fucking health insurance and can't afford this shit
I might be eligible for worker's comp for it but I don't know how that works and if they drug test you I smoke weed at home........
I once cut my finger to the bone pretty bad, and instead of stitches they used some kind of glue, you could probably buy that and put it on yourself. It was the fleshy part on the side of the finger though, it could be too weak for the knuckle.
It's what krazy glue was originally intended for, not for wounds that deep though
Depends on where u work but ur employer should have at the very least a form of workers comp where they send you to their own doctor, which would be better than nothing if you're really worried. They don't drug test you typically, at least I've never been tested for it.
I've done this, you need stitches. I took myself to the ER and they billed my employer.
Yeah. You need stitches. I cut myself sharpening a knife. Didn't look that bad, but it bled like hell and once they got the bleeding under control they put a couple of stitches in it to make sure it wouldn't open up again.
Huh. You can actually still see the scar if you know where to look. That was 20 years ago.
Exactly. It doesn't matter so much that the bleeding is stopped. The stitches are important for preventing the wound from reopening. This causes it to heal faster, and most importantly, reduces the risk of infection during that period.
If you cut yourself at work you need stiches. If you cut yourself at home you can usually get away with disinfectant TP and duct tape.
Idk what i'm going to do if they tell me I need to do some workers comp shit and then get drug tested
Yer not gonna get drug tested. They are gonna make you fill out an accident report and the hospital will make you file another bit of paperwork for your employers insurance. Paying for a drug test is more expensive than paying for a few stiches. If every employer drug tested every food service worker that needed stiches the industry would go belly up.
I guess i'm going to find out tomorrow. They'd have to be really dumb to fire me even if they drug test me though but idk. It's a corporate owner and im working at a college so idk I'd it'll be different than some random restaurant situation
Knuckle is gonna be a tough one to get away without stitches, there's lots of flexing and pulling of the skin.
Since you got hurt on the job there should be some employer paperwork you can fill out or take to the ER or something so that their insurance pays for it.
No reason for them to drug test you since you just went in for a pretty common workplace injury (unless you're ripping from a bong in the ER waiting room... which... I would not recommend).
Oh shit comrade, good luck
Thanks, i got stitches, it "only" cost 200 dollars, I'm mainly worried about 1) itt hurts to grip anything even without using my thumb so it WILL slow me down at work and 2) being forced to do some workers comp thing and getting drug tested and fired because i smoke weed at home (i will smoke weed at work too but i'm not now because i'm new to being a cook and highly stressed out about learning everything)
I also took 2.5mg of leftover vicodin because my thumb hurts so that will extra fuck me if i get drug tested. Idk. I guess we'll see.
