Nonetheless, I only see one instance abusing of the bug. It's definitely lemmy growing pains though. I'm hoping some instance just outright ban images and emoticon, I always hated them. The little π€£π€£π€£ always screamed teenage bullshit to me.
The reason we're the only instance that do it is because the glitch is in how the fork of lemmy that hexbear (and no other instance runs on) interacts with mainline Lemmy instances. No other instance actually has this glitch.
In general though it's become common etiquette to spoiler the larger emojis now (at least outside of local hexbear comms)
::: spoiler for example:
That's nifty, I didn't know that. Hexbear more like hacksbear.
Yeah, the people who maintain the code on our fork of lemmy are currently trying to fix the issue apparently, we didn't realise it was a problem at first during testing because the test instance was defederated so there was no one from a different instance to look at it and go, "hey wait a minute, these emojis look giant to me"
Can the pig poop balls emoji please stay giant tho
I don't care about the others
We need legacy emotes for and that are absolutely enormous once they fix the problem
Don't forget the
:ppb-nuclear: :one-true-liberal:
Is the fork source in a public repo? I'd really like to see the delta there and try to get some features cherry-picked to the main Lemmy codebase.
The Code link at the bottom of every page links to it.
Thanks, very (beary?) much!
I'm no expert but I think many features were upstreamed to Lemmy in the past couple of years, to help converge the fork.
OH that's why people are spoilering. I get it now.
We're not abusing "the bug" we're just using our instance the way our instance is meant to work. We have a lot of emotes and we use them. There's probably like 600 of them at this point.
It's not our fault they show up incorrectly on other servers, it's lemmy. The reason you don't see other instances doing it is because everywhere else on lemmy has existed for like 3 weeks and has absolutely no unique culture yet. We've been here 3 years and have had considerably more time to build up the Hexbear community lore, emote collection, etc etc.
We arenβt abusing the bug we just are posting emojis like we always do
