Shame there's not more information on what they had with them.
I assume their boat was barely sea-worthy to start with but they probably left port with the expectation of staying at sea for several days at least. They also obviously had the gear to catch and cook fish.
It's a big deal, and a life threatening situation, but not an epic feat of survival.
I really want to know more about the parboiled fish. Like… how? Why just parboil?
Yeah who knows. It might have been a translation issue. They might have had very rudimentary cooking stuff so maybe the best they could do was to boil it for a couple of minutes.
Saving fuel, perhaps. Or maybe they used a solar cooker. Jerry rigged even. Boiling water is hard but heating it to fish-safe temperature would be much easier.
Article said they were drinking rusted water whatever that means and rain water. Safe to assume they didn't have shit
I guess they drained some water from the radiator on the engine.
55 days is a lot though if you were only prepared for a few. Plus the fear must have been nuts.
Yeah. That's kind of what I was saying. It's a big deal and a life threatening situation but it's nothing compared to the oceanic survival hall of fame.
Bligh's voyage after the mutiny of the bounty is kind of the feat by which others are measured:

Navigation by dead reckoning, no supplies, hostile natives et cetera.
