At my brother's wedding the opposite happened where so many people straight up said "I didn't write anything because I wanted to speak from the heart" and ended up not saying shit.

I spent an hour writing my brother's speech, it's not hard!

Seriously, I just told a story at my sister's about a formative memory of mine - wherein she swore off men forever, so I knew her husband must've done something right. Just should be positive and personal.
