Word on the street says he received a prophecy that foretold Spez would fully give into the sin of greed so he decided to make an account on feddit.it before starting up his own instance. The server has the most stringent signup requirements, the admins/moderators are almost all Swiss and everyone often communicates in Latin and Italian. The contributors of Lemmy were sent a few bars of gold every year. Godbless his server.

It's honestly not as far-fetched as it may seem. Father Robert Ballecer lives in the Vatican for most of the year, and that dude is very tech savvy. He set up the Vatican Minecraft server and is a regular attendee to the Black Hat security conference. He's also got a record in enterprise IT, including for the Vatican, an interest in privacy, and a presence on the fediverse already.

It might not be reality, but it wouldn't be strikingly unusual if he did start up a Vatican Mastodon instance or a Pixelfed or something.
