Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

I did not have "Frauddogg self-destructs after calling someone from the global south a settler and then attempting to excuse having served in the US military" on my 2025 Bingo card.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wait, frauddogg served in the US military? This does not paint them in a good light at all, especially if they were deployed. Assuming that it is true, it's also an incredible lapse of judgment for frauddogg to think that they can somehow admit to being a vet and at the same time think they can get away with people not calling them out on being a vet.

frauddogg was groomed into enlisting in high school as a minor

I'm not a hardliner who thinks every single foot soldier of empire is an irredeemable baby butcher who should be shot in the face, but there has to be a degree of humility among vets, including POC vets. There were plenty of Black Panther and AIM revolutionaries who started out as brainwashed lapdogs of empire send to Vietnam to oppress the Vietnamese, but they came out of the experience with a clear political understanding of US imperialism and their own personal role as a cog within the US death machine, which was part of the reason why they dedicated the rest of their lives to the BPP/AIM. And they had the humility to 100% owe up to being brainwashed lapdogs of empire who should've been fighting alongside the Vietnamese instead of against them.

I didn't see that sense of humility within frauddogg. You can't go around calling people settlers and crackers while at the same time having served in the US military. It doesn't work like that.

I'm also very late here but I'll say I liked frauddogg and thought null was a good addition to the site, and I agree with what you said but I will just point out that some of those who served in Vietnam were drafted. I know there were ways around serving, but they weren't all voluntarily serving, which added to the commitment to fighting US imperialism. I don't know how old frauddogg was but I'm going to assume null wasn't a drafted Vietnam vet.

I'll admit I'm biased but I think every voluntary US soldier is a piece of shit, I don't know the details of everyone's "militarily groomed" upbringing but I was hounded by recruiters and told them to fuck off at every turn. You joined because college was expensive? Fuck you, default on your loans like a normal person. As a working class person whose country was also invaded by the US, I don't have very much sympathy at all for any person joining or for any excuse they use to cope with killing innocent people for social benefits.

What happened was pretty light considering frauddogg was going around throwing haymakers at everyone for being a crackkker all the while having served in the imperial fascist military and done God knows what, which could be far worse than some online cracker microaggressions, even though they had discussed serving openly before. I didn't know about it and I'm going to assume most didn't either so it seems a little disingenuous.

My thoughts exactly. I only just learned about this because I've been staying out of this thread, largely due to how hostile and tense things had become the last few months. But learning this makes me very angry considering how null was constantly belligerent to all but a select few, including other EMPOC.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

i guess we would have lost them the moment we had another soldier struggle sess

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oh... damndeeper-sadness

I saw the posts earlier today, but frauddog had already deleted null's posts so I didn't really quite get to whole picture.

I don't think the people in the linked thread and that comment are being fair to frauddogg

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Well, tbf, do you think it was fair to fellow POC @[email protected] to be called a "settler"?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

From what I can tell (and recall) Frauddogg took issue with Funk's statement on a Hexbear user contacting the FBI to submit a FOIA request about Hexbear

This website is not a threat to capital. This response is frankly ridiculous.

Which frauddogg called a settler take.

To be clear I think someone toying with government attention (especially without anyone's consent) should be taken seriously and Hexbear has been a lifeline to a lot of users.

Yeah, I think that was a stupid justification on FunkYankkkees' part, however, when FunkYankkkees responded back with "invader", honestly, frauddogg's confrontational response just showed he couldn't handle his own medicine

(you can go to his lemmygrad account to still see his confrontational attitude over time, which is understandable but unhealthy if you're espousing it repeatedly)

I think while Funk was wrong on the FOIA, I think frauddogg's overall attitude, especially his response, just dug a deeper ditch for himself

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

And these people were on the same page

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe I grant you that, because I suppose many of them would prolly be the people frauddogg would be arguing with...

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think a lot of people are going to take it the wrong way and assume because frauddogg wasn't perfect in this one situation, they can disregard everything frauddog has ever said (even when correct). It's also a case of minorities being expected to be informed and perfect 100% of the time, while whitey is allowed to say stupid shit.

Don't think it was wrong to call something "a settler take." You wouldn't e-mail the CIA/Mossad/MI6 asking them if they've seen a group's Facebook page. Doubling down on being part of the American war machine, however, is not good.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

"a settler take."

Correct, it's a "fed take".

It's also a case of minorities being expected to be informed and perfect 100% of the time, while whitey is allowed to say stupid shit.

Actually applies to both people, in this case (@[email protected] and @[email protected]

served in the US military

Oh yikes 😐
