no one has ever accused evangelicals of being smart or internally consistent with their beliefs
Maybe 15 years ago I knew someone working on their doctoral thesis for theology & they commented to me that American Protestantism was more about white supremacy than Christianity. It's always stuck with me.
I had to learn this on my own while surrounded by it
the largest US protestant denomination formed specifically to defend slavery. it's still the largest today.
Yeah. They literally edited a special bible for evslaved people that removed all talk of liberation and equality before god. American Christianty, Baptists and Evangelicals and other Christian Fascists, was very literally and deliberately created as a tool to enforce white supremacy and keep slaves under control.
The book Jesus and John Wayne does a good job of explaining this
