flag-intersex-pride

I'm a nurse, I'm trans and don't pass particularly well, I had no idea so many people were intersex. I guess I knew the stats but its different to really understand them. I'd met a couple intersex people before of course but that was at a lgbt conference. So many older patients talking to me about their parents decisions over their bodies at critical times, their struggles with how they looked during puberty... and all because I wear a trans pride pin and look vaguely non-cis, none of my coworkers knew no one in their chart history ever knew.

oh yeah, there is a lot of us. i was diagnosed when i was a teen, but it's actually pretty likely that there are more of us who are undiagnosed. i've definitely met quite a few people who almost certainly have undiagnosed intersex conditions. mine is supposedly quite rare, and interestingly enough, my diagnosis doesn't account for all of the symptoms i have, and i've had such bad experiences with healthcare that i have little interest in going back for more investigations.

i am sure your patients appreciate your solidarity. thank you <3
