okay, so build more batteries

Octopus are an energy company, are they not allowed to build their own storage? Or do they just grift off the National Grid and are asking the government to do it

That look: "You only cared for my wellbeing when I was up here and not down there. Curious double-standard, is it not?"

measuring cell stress (literally how much you can deform a cell) as a factor that can influence its development is a bit of a hot crossover field in Physics and Biology atm

EU one requires an ID/passport, UK one doesn't -- I'd argue that the EU one is safe and the UK one should get more attention on the validitiy

So I was reading up about it a little, and apparently the lady did get some kind of spoken agreement from the priest that she could restore it:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19349921

"(The) priest knew it! He did! How could you do something like that without permission? He knew it!"

and the priest then washed his hands of her once she botched it.

That being said, the piece is getting so much attention that the little church is raking in donations, and the woman is now sueing for a piece of the pie:

Actual Link: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/carl-twinly-cow-arrest/

The story about "Carl Twinly" is a work of fiction. However, the mugshot shown above is real. It was taken in 2008 and shows a woman who was arrested in Middleton, Ohio. According to Fox 19, she had been hired to dress up as a cow to promote a local haunted trail. She was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after she allegedly got drunk, chased some children, and interrupted traffic.

Fox 19 reported: "A Middletown woman is behind bars, charged with disorderly conduct after she was arrested while wearing a cow suit ... Police say Michelle Allen was getting in the way of traffic and chasing children while wearing her cow suit. She's also accused of urinating on a neighbor's front porch."

Ratatat. I got into them through an Albino Blacksheep video, and they were my secret favourite band for a bit.

Then they got popular, and people that I didn't really jell with started casually raving about them, and I found it difficult to enjoy the music because of those people.

Years later, I grew up. Music is for everyone, and everyone forms their own relationship with it that shouldnt impact the enjoyment of the music itself.

Yes, they were sold on the band through mass advertizing channels. Yes, I discovered them through a more organic means. But that's how fans are born, and yes some of them aren't there for the music, but they are there to have a good time and maybe those songs hold special memories for them later in life when they were hanging around with friends.

Investigating this further, I looked at events that were occurring in 1899 in Portugal and noted the following births:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1899_in_Portugal

  • 6 February - Jaime Gonçalves, footballer (deceased)
  • 25 February - António Pinho, footballer (deceased)
  • 21 April - José Ramos, footballer (deceased)
  • 30 April - Fernando António, footballer (deceased)
  • 10 May - Artur Paredes, guitar player (died 1980)
  • 21 August - António Leite, fencer (died 1958)
  • 26 August - Francisco Vieira, footballer (deceased)
  • 24 October - João Francisco Maia, footballer (deceased)
  • 8 November - Manuel António Vassalo e Silva, Governor-General of Portuguese India (died 1985)
  • 19 December - Fernando Santos Costa, army officer (died 1982)
  • 30 December - José Pimenta, footballer (deceased)
  • Armando Machado, fadista, guitarist, "viola" player (died 1974)
  • Jesus Muñoz Crespo, footballer (died 1979)
  • Sarmento Rodrigues, naval officer, colonist, professor (died 1979)

Coincidence? I think not. I reckon Queen Victoria new exactly how shot our chances would be in any subsequent World Cups against Portugal, and sought to minimize the damage.

Combined Cadet Force

I still have a hard time explaining this to people who don't know what it is.

Essentially, kids are "voluntarily" put into this thing after school where they dress up in uniforms and berets and forced to do marching drills.

You then pick whether you want to do Army/Navy/RAF, and you get to do some shooting drills. Guns are brought into the school (without ammo) and kids are shown how to shoot.

Every year each group goes on a summer camp type excursion where they get to fire real weapons or fly gliders or something.

And that's it.

Sing along if you know the lyrics:

Rats, rats, we are the rats,
Celebrating yet another birthday bash!
𝓶𝓲𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓮𝓵, it's your birthday today,
Cake and ice cream is on it's way!
And 𝓶𝓲𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓮𝓵, has been such a good boy this year,
Open up your gifts while we all cheer!

Take a look: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkwind#Discography

Every year from 1970 onwards is either an album release, or a live concert, or staggered album release, all with at maximum a 1-year hiatus.

In 2003 to 2004 something drastic of cosmic and celestial import must have happened.

Learning to drive late in life. I'm good with awareness, changing gears, interactions, roundabouts, spatial awareness, yadda yadda - a lifetime of cyclist awareness.

I just can't brake softly to save my life. It feels like I put the pedal half down, and nothing happens to the speed and then I do an inch more and suddenly the whole car locks up.

Is this normal? I just have to get used to finding a gentle breaking point somehow?

I'm on 2 teaspoons a day.

Any studies out there about the negative effects of it?

Is Marmite poisoning a thing?
