How about just a notebook and pen then?

You should buy AppleCare for it then as there is limited time after purchase to get it
I've got better things to worry about
Dude do some research. You absolutely cannot use an Apple watch independent of the iPhone you set it up with - they will always be linked.
Have you looked into any non Apple smartwatches at all?
Even doing a quick Google search would show you the Galaxy Active watch which is the Samsung version. I used to have one an enjoyed using it so if you're hell bent on using the company perk get one of those. And if you don't have to get one then don't - if you plan on using it great. If you have to think of reasons or an excuse for one just wear a normal watch which is totally fine.
Spend some time being proactive and then hit up Reddit.
Wear what you want, seriously, no one else cares.
Hah sorry OP but no, they do not care and you being "loud" will only paint you as a loony tune.
You're late to the party with this post OP. Every day there is a post about how much people hate the new AW OS update.
If you need people to list it out you don't need it. Or you can take 2 seconds to Google it and read a few reviews and some info about it. And then decide if it will work for you. You don't need Reddit to regurgitate the feature list as it's available and you can watch some reviews and/or pop in a store and check it out.
Get an Oura ring or something else.
Or you can just ignore it and not care. You can even just take it off when you're sick.
You don't need it. There are more minimalistic health trackers like Withings or the Oura ring.
If this person is a med student and can't get their shit together they probably won't last long.
