Yeah, the link on the Index seems to still be live from over here

Congratulations! From a side of printing that's heavier-duty and plays with engineering materials more, have some knowledge:

  • PLA+ != PLA. PLA+ is a monster of a plastic blend that'll do a lot of heavy-duty things provided you keep the heat light
  • Carbon fiber is not what makes a plastic strong. Treat CF blends individually -- Nylons are usually pretty good structurally, PLA-CF less so
  • Moisture content has a huge impact on print quality. +1 for a good filament dehydrator
  • Keep yourself safe. Do not sand or cut filled plastics (-CF, -GF, etc.) without PPE! Don't be the example case for new-age asbestos lung

This is also good advice for ABS/ASA and filled plastics. Honestly, I'm way less concerned about PLA fumes than I am styrene or potential airborne microscopic carbon fibers.

Tell me about it. I made my Lemmy instance after /r/fosscad got banned and people still wanted to flock to reddit on the subs that sprung up afterward.

This. Probably not a bad idea to scoop as many people up and get them over here as possible.

Soon. Very soon. (forum.guncadindex.com)

It's just about there. After a lot of time figuring out most of the intricacies of MediaWiki and implementing solid foundations, we're almost ready to open signups and take edits.

http://wiki.guncadindex.com/

Be bold. Think about what you want to add, and when I say go, add it. Here's the deal:

  • I want to drive refinement, taking knowledge dumps and molding them into proper encyclopedic knowledge.
  • I want sources of truth, where we edit some authoritative guide instead of inventing 20 ways to do something and then play telephone telling people about them all.
  • I want narrow scope, with offsite wiki links instead of regurgitating information.

And I want it to be open-source. CC-BY-SA, and I'll set up automatic regular backups you can download.

Mull over what you'd add. A vendor? A broad-stroke comparison between Nylons? The obvious need for a page on the FGC-9 MkII? Or maybe you'd just crack open the "Needs Work" category and run down the list, adding knowledge and fixing shit wherever you can.

Soon.

Hm. Warm the slide up maybe? If that's PLA, you can get the slide up to a temp where the PLA will soften real easy. Hell, you could probably do it by running it under tap-hot water for a bit.

Fuckin' Rear Breed Triggers at it again, desperately trying to immolate the value of their company.

I like to dip to 0.16 and 0.12 where it makes sense purely for quality. The mag catch on the SF5, for example, benefits from the higher resolution against high-friction surfaces and makes the paddle smoother to operate.

Print fine stuff with fine settings, more or less.

EDIT: That's a kickass-looking leber btw

In my experience? Doesn't really matter -- layer height influences outward print quality and dimensional accuracy more than strength.

Friendly reminder to all those involved: DMs over Lemmy are not private. Negotiate any PII over another medium.

There's the SSAK but I'm not certain about compatibility or reliability: https://guncadindex.com/detail/SSAK-V1-Beta-V16:e

I keep telling myself that one of these days, surely, I'll eventually leave my comfy Fedora rpm-ostree setup, try out NixOS, and make the most of its super unique package management.

Surely.

Hello... lemmitors...? Lemmings? FOSSCAD enthusiasts by another name.

If you're interested in an instance to call home that's guncad top-to-bottom, come check out https://forum.guncadindex.com/ !

(EDIT: If this is out-of-place, I apologize. I needed another relevant forum with which to confirm we had working federation. If this is out of line for your instance, please let me know)
