The mental gymnastics that these people must go through.

"We could use the sun to replace fossil fuels with clean energy."

"Nope, not on the table."

"Ok, you know, we could just blot out the whole fucking sun and keep burning fossil fuels!"

"Fucking genius, tell me more!"

"Yeah, we keep drilling and drilling and when we run out of oil...umm....and the sun is blocked out too....ummm.....you know, we'll just kick that can down the road on that last part. Bill, deploy Operation Sunsceen. Gretchen, call Enron and tell to DRILL BABY!"

An interesting way to phrase "Iran doesn't trust Trump administration after they fire bombed a bunch of kids and civilian infrastructure".

But I guess brevity matters more than truth. Lemme try again...

"US can't be trusted to honor ceasefire"

A bit better, maybe?

Hijack the bus. Take the kids to a park.

^Fucking legal disclaimer and shit. It's a joke.^

It's not a Hitler bunker.

I promise you, someone on his staff got the idea from Rick and Morty. I bet it has levels with a bar and a McDonald's and some other unmentionable rooms where the screams linger in the walls.

JFC. He really does want the entire world to hate us.

I don't want to deny being American while I'm abroad, but maybe I'll just act a little stupid.

"Trump who? Oh, THAT guy is the president again?! Whoa, that IS crazy, had no idea!"

[-] MerryJaneDoe@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

Wow, I just went down a rabbit hole and read a bunch of her stuff.

I'm left to wonder why her ideas gained any traction at all? But I've had enough of Dworkin for one day, so maybe I'll just stay morbidly curious and move on with my life. I feel like I need some chocolate and a fuzzy blanket now...safety...security....sanity.

Imagine Italy demanding support from all cotholics because they have Rome

Can't tell if you're making a deadpan joke or if you are serious. But for the record, that's pretty much been exactly the case for most of history.

Pope John Paul II (Karol Józef Wojtyła) was the first non-Italian pope in over 450 years, elected on October 16, 1978. Since that time, of course, popes have come from all over the globe.

Last time fascism rose, Mussolini proclaimed the Catholic Church as the official religion of Italy. The Church was happy to oblige.

No big deal on the letter of recommendation, I think? They'd surely understand an overworked professor who uses a template, regardless of whether it's AI.

Fun fact, Japan's constitution limits its military force to defensive capabilities only. They get the lion's share (97%) of their military equipment from the US. Japan has, in recent years, worked towards revising the definition of "defense" to include more offensive weapons, and allocate more money to defense spending.

So, yeah, vassal - and a good customer, too.

I wish Cuba had its own stickied megathread.

What's happening there is being overshadowed by everything else, but it's the only real play here for Trump&Co., as far as I can see.

The Gulf/Iran/oil issue will get sorted out. Things will go back to a relatively normal state there. Meanwhile, Cuba is - and always has been - at the mercy of the U.S. We know that Trump is into land grabs. Who's going to stop him from "stepping in" and taking control of Cuba? NATO won't help Cuba. Mexico? Brazil? Doubtful. Congress? (Nah, that last one is a joke, literally and figuratively.)

Joy! I'm getting back on HRT! And taking a trip!

spoilerIt's a good news/bad news situation. I've given up hope and I'm moving overseas. I don't know how long I'll be able to survive, but I at least want to be away for midterm elections. On the bright side, I'll be going to a very trans-friendly country and I'll be able to afford HRT, which is absurdly expensive in my state.
