Bringing in "business experts" has been eroding Colleges and Universities for decades. Too much money is going to leadership and not enough to professors (depending on school), postdoctorals, and graduate students.

Universities shouldn't be businesses.

First paragraph.

Minnesota Republican Sen. Justin David Eichorn has been arrested on suspicion of solicitation of an underage girl for sex.

In the 1970's and 1980's there were several books the either had characters that did it or promoted it.

Why is there no cooking tray in my new car's engine bay?

Is it dangerous? (It would be less physically dangerous if there was a specific spot for it.)

With the Minnesota House now working, is the effort to gave recall elections of all Minnesota House Democrats still going?

Has anyone seen efforts to gather signatures?

Amazingly restrained on Linus' part. He has really grown.

I am super creeped out that Plaid wants my bank login do Citi will direct deposit my Costco Reward.

How are you all handling this?

New bank just for deposit?

Reward to Costco to get cash?

Just give Plaid access to all your details?

I am a jr. Dev, but not imaginative. I find most programming languages to be poorly advertised and explained. Usually they assume too much knowledge.

What would I use Web Assembly, like Goblin (https://spritely.institute/), for? Are there examples of Web Assembly programs?

It is for web pages, or online games? Can they be run offline?

How to filter words? (midwest.social)
submitted 5 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hello,

Where is the menu for adding filtered words? I had found the word filter before, but now I cannot. "Bans and Filters" looks like the right place, but I cannot add words.

Thanks in advance!

The Meaning of Life (midwest.social)
submitted 5 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

As an Atheist, I am often puzzled by the theist view that the Meaning of Life comes only from God. It seems very narrow, bleak, and heavy handed.

Do you find value in discussion of the Meaning of Life?
What do you think the meaning is?
What value do you think knowing the Meaning of Life brings?

CEO personally chose a price too low for company to be profitable.

What a clown.

Everyone is going to get a good view of the "prison industrial complex ". Wait until you hear how much commissary coffee is.

Source: I know someone navigating it now. I don't have a price list, but it is bad.

I don't understand the Nintendo Switch. How many do I need for a family of gamers?

They are a personal device like a gameboy.
There is a TV version for party games.
The games may or may not be shareable, even with the physical games.
Assume the ideal usage is during screen time on a weekend.

I have been avoiding buying one as I don't understand them. Thinking of getting them soon.

I assume one OLED for the family and then a portable per person, then one copy of each game per device.

How is this affordable?

Fascinating article. Baiting the right to read it, then dropping truth on them?

Jenna Ellis, a suspended lawyer who used to work for Donald Trump and who pleaded guilty to "aiding and abetting false statements" in an attempt to overturn Joe Biden's 2020 victory in Georgia, posted an article of Biden biting a baby on X, writing: "How is this real?"

Sad part is, the work could have been subbed out to the cheapest while homeowners paid much higher.

I like a certain unremarkable car from the recent past. As they are repairable currently, can one just buy all of the parts new and put it together?

Are there any parts that aren't sold new?

Have you done this?
Are there any tools to help one get all of the parts?
Any communities?

"The Mighty Ducks" did a good job featuring Minnesota. "D2" did a shit job. Even called Minneapolis a "po dunk town". I think the writers had nit watched the first movies.

The lines are long. The food is expensive. Everyone in the group wants to eat something different. The food taste is a gamble. There are few places to eat.

Does everyone stick together and wait in all of the lines? Split up and meet at some location? Eat on the way to the festival and just hang out?

My guess as a Linux admin in IT.

I understand the fix takes ~5 minutes per system, must be done in person, and cannot be farmed out to users.

There are likely conversations about alternatives or mitigations to/for crowdstrike.

Most things were likely fixed yesterday. (Depending on staffing levels.) Complications could go on for a week. Fallout of various sorts for a month.

Lawsuits, disaster planning, cyberattacks (targeting crowdstrike companies and those that hastily stopped using it) will go on for months and years.

The next crowdstrike mistake could happen at any time...

Good. Nothing will get us through the hype cycle faster than obvious public failure. Then we can get on with productive uses.

Everyone, stop what you are doing and check your local police department for this guy.

During the course of the investigation into the shooting, deputy Herandez resigned from the force.

He is out there somewhere, getting scared and shooting at his own car.

For my FBI agents, I always add "linux" or the programming language name to the start. Except for "Go", which I still search as "golang".

As an aside, fuck everyone that names things without thinking about the search results. "R" is especially terrible. "Go" is saved by "golang". "Python" with programming. "R" is not saved by anything.

Elon very likely lives in his own bubble with no one around that can disagree.

A millionaire could surround themselves with other millionaires and get a reality check. There are few billionaires and trillionaires, and they are likely surrounded by people that depend on the billionaires for their life's stability.

This is a good argument for taxing billionaires heavily. They should not exist and will be destructive as they loose touch with reality.
