It's just hyperbolic masculine capitalism being parroted. Live in the U.S. south and have dealt with many friends and their relatives who have said the same shit. I've been around long enough to see those same people completely fall apart when the lives at home just crumble because they're too busy with work (illness, deaths in family, etc). They always eventually come to regret the decisions and times they've missed once they get in their later years.

There's nothing wrong with choosing to prioritize a work career in one's life though, but hating on someone else's choice is just ridiculous.

It took me way too long to figure out what was going on with those settings. One of my relatives tv's was like this back in the day and at first I thought it was just their "HD" setup which made me completely write off getting anything HD because of the fake look like a soap opera. It wasn't till I was gifted a blue-ray player that I realized their tv just had horrible "enchancement" shit.

damn, that sounds like you were part of a case study in your childhood. Is there a difference with how your brother turned out and yourself? Interested to know if you picked up skills like DIY and stuff while your brother isn't capable of those things.

It's interesting the preconceived notions over managements usefulness and the actual role a CEO plays in a company. I've had a lot of conversations with people over the years and everyone just expects that it "has to be this way or it won't work". Like every admin position is critical or the company will fail, completely disregarding that most of those positions didn't exist before and the company ran just fine.

There's a lot of misinformation over what their actual job entails. Management is mostly just one big "telephone" game (been on all sides of it, got out just in time before it warped my perception of life). The original role of being support is completely absent in their duties as our society and culture has changed. People also think a co-op would never work because you need a big shot CEO who runs the company and makes all the decisions (they don't, plenty of examples in reality).

It's kinda funny to hear a lot of the tech people on here mention imposter syndrome. Every person in administration has this feeling deep down inside that they aren't important and they have no clue what they're doing. The only difference is everyone in the C-suite pat's eachother on the back and help build each other's ego up so they can just pretend they don't feel it. It's why people in these positions get so defensive and irate if you start dissecting their actual duties and importance. They've been reassured everyday that what they do is integral when it's suppose to be the managers job to make his employees feel that way.

I'm torn on affiliate links. I've worked with people in sales before and it's usually scammy unless the contract is done right (flat rate commission, no bonuses for selling "certain" items). I've seen really hard working and informative workers that are actually impossible to replace because of the knowledge of products and handling the customers needs without flair or extra cost. Will inform them of cheaper methods like how easy it is to purchase and install a cable versus paying someone $100 just to plug something in and flip a switch basically.

In those instances, I think the affiliate/commission is warranted. Same with some awesome youtube channels I've ran across where they test the shit out of several products in a category (Torque Test Channel is a good one). If I need the product and I'm buying it off their recommendation I will gladly use their affiliate link if I think about it beforehand.

Now, there are some channels that I've just taken the affiliate link to be basically a form of sponsorship and promotion. Sadly a lot of construction/trade channels end up falling into this eventually. Matt Risinger is probably one of the worse ones, but even lower end guys like The Stud Pack just become a "new product showcase" channel instead of DIY or instructional videos.

geez you weren't kidding

Several other Democrats who voted to censure Tlaib were among the top recipients of AIPAC funds in November, including Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz ($141,058) (link)

and that was in January. If it's any consolation, the evil is slowly draining her life away it seems.

Hopefully wikipedia recognizes this as the official Canary in the Chrome mine. I was first impressed with chrome book because of seeing them used for education, getting my own laptop during school would've been mindblowing to kid me. I was unimpressed with the strangulation process of the OS but again shocked when they added a linux boot mode. There needs to be better alternatives by now, I would be ok with an OS developed by the department of education in conjunction with higher educational institutions. Could have a decent non-profit approach to a browser and ad blockers could legitimately be built in as a "protect the children" aim of approach.

My mind couldn't contemplate the title when I first read it. I thought this was some sort of AI art or deep fake "blender" program that he was selling nudes or vids of her that he had constructed.... the whole actual person being put into a blender just didn't even compute.

Crazy different feel to this with the up-scaling done. For me, it makes you feel like you're on the set with them. Unfortunately, it makes you feel like you're on a set lol.

I just wanted to use my voice to let everyone know about this since it seems to be something they want to Streisand effect. I made a discussion on the stormgate steam page about how their EULA has a bad link to their privacy policy and asked why the information listed in the policy is being collected. It had to go through the review process since it contained links and then after being posted was deleted from my history after an hour (I guess when someone actually laid eyes on it)

For the full details I already made a post in the privacy community asking if this was a common occurrence. I'm attempting to reach out through other avenues for some type of explanation but just getting crickets or brick walls. Please use caution and common sense when downloading and consenting to agreements from game companies.

The highlights if you don't feel like clicking the link:

In particular, we have collected the following categories of personal information from consumers within the last twelve (12) months:

Rather peeved about all of this. Been waiting for this game for ages and was excited about the F2P aspect then found out a lot of elements of the game are locked behind paywalls making the full game costing way over most AAA games. Ok, lets roll on anyways and see what the game has to offer. Then I get to the privacy policy and realize they're using anti-cheat services to monitor your game, I continued reading the user agreement and then had to find their actual privacy policy page because they have it listed under a different url then what they have posted. Some Highlights from the user agreement:

You may not host, provide or develop matchmaking services for the Product, or intercept, emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Frost Giant in any way, for any purpose, including without limitation unauthorized play over the internet, network play (except as expressly authorized by Frost Giant), or as part of content aggregation networks.

You may not organize, promote or participate in an esports competition for the Product which has not been licensed by Frost Giant.

You may not play on another user's Account

In order to safeguard its licensing rights, when you are using the Product, Frost Giant may monitor your hardware random access memory (RAM)

You understand that the mere presence of unauthorized cheat software on your device, whether or not you use that unauthorized software while playing the Game, may result in Frost Giant exercising its full rights under this Agreement.

Acknowledgments. You acknowledge that:

  • The Game which is the object of the Alpha or Beta Test is a work in progress and may contain bugs which may cause loss of data and/or damage to your computer system;
  • You have, or will, back-up your hard drive prior to installation of the Beta;
  • You have the resources necessary to easily reinstall the operating system for the computer system that you will use to take part in the Alpha or Beta Test as well as to restore any and all data that may be lost;

It just goes on and on with some really sketchy stuff, then I get to the privacy policy:

Your contact information/identifiers, such as your name, your gamer id, mailing address, email address, employer, primary language, country, social media credentials. preferred games and date of birth. If you contact us by telephone, we will also retain your telephone number.

Your geolocation data, if your device settings allow us to collect such information.

Your account preference information, such as your contact, communication and marketing preferences.

Your device and browsing information, including non-personally identifiable information about your phone, tablet, computer or device and online browsing activity, which may be automatically collected. This may include IP addresses, unique identifiers, cookie identifiers, browser language, device and browser settings and broad location-based information, and internet service provider information. It may also include information about when and how you accessed and used our Sites, how you navigated to our Sites (such as the date and time of your visit), the links you clicked, the websites you visited before and after our Sites, and what you searched for while on our Sites.

We partner with third parties (like sponsors, content providers, and analytics companies) to help us improve our Services and better understand how you interact with them, as well as to support our marketing initiatives and ad campaigns. These companies may collect info from you automatically in connection with your visit.

And the really scary part

In particular, we have collected the following categories of personal information from consumers within the last twelve (12) months:

  • A real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers.

  • Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.
  • Browsing history, search history, information on a consumer's interaction with a website, application, or advertisement.
  • Physical location or movements.

Third party service providers. - From time to time, Frost Giant may need to transmit your personal data to vendors or service providers that enable us to market, sell, or deliver our services. These service providers may require certain personal information in order to perform specific services on our behalf, such as cloud service and data storage, beta testing, tech support to enhance game operations, chat, customer support, social login, fulfillment and shipping, email and newsletter delivery, conducting surveys, payment processing, tournament operation, anti-cheat and fraud prevention, web hosting or web analytics. Such partners include:

Steam
Epic Online Services
RallyCry
Hathora
Brevo
Eventbrite
AWS
Sentry.io
Google
Easy Anti-Cheat
GGWP
Untapped
Kakao Games
ModSquad

I've stopped playing previous games that use these tactics and programs because there's just too many other games that don't require these that are available. This was a game I was hoping to get back into with some RTS friends I've made along the way, Is this just the way of the world or something to avoid?

This is the official ride video that was thankfully saved. If anyone has VR and has watched it like that let me know how it went! From Stargate fandom wiki

  • a simulator thrill ride based around the highly successful MGM television series Stargate SG-1 that made its debut at The Space Center in Bremen and Germany in December, 2003. A reproduction has now been built at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Marine World (which is now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). As of 2006, Six Flags Great America no longer shows Stargate SG-3000.
  • 3000 years after the events of Stargate SG-1, the Stargate Network has long since been shut down by the Asgard. However, the network now becomes active again and the stored consciousness of General George S. Hammond reactivates to guide new SG team members through the gate to stop Satra, the daughter of Apophis who wishes to get revenge for the death of her father.

It's... interesting what they were trying to do with the IP. Apparently in 2021 the simulator was purchased by Hennie van der Most to be installed at Attractiepark Rotterdam (hard to follow the trail after that without translations but doubt they have the rights to show the old ride).

Some other interesting things to note:

From CoasterBuzz (2004)

MGM's syndicated Stargate SG-1 television show will be the basis for a simulator film showing at three Six Flags parks this year, including Marine World, Kentucky Kingdom and Great America. Stargate SG 3000 features a four-minute simulation film that lets audiences experience what happens when they soar through the Stargate into different dimensions. The 20-minute overall guest experience includes a themed queuing area, the mission briefing/pre-show and the motion simulator theater.

Facebook link to a set of photos taken while the exhibit was open, includes the queue area and a shot of the "pre-show".

The original Trailer for the ride

  • Also hoping to find the original pre-show and more information on the rides setup, no hits so far though.

Over the years I've been surprised by the number of mods created by fans of the show while waiting for an official IP game (Timekeepers does exist now, but is a very niche game). I thought this would be a good place to highlight some of those and will probably turn it into a side-bar spoiler.

What are some of your favorite mods you've ran across? I will populate and edit a list with the responses. If you wish to rate or describe the mod I will include that and your username as well. Links will be helpful but not necessary.

MinecraftModrinth Modpack - Stargate Eternity 7: Galaxy

Curseforge Mod List - Too many to individually list, link takes you to the search page

::: spoiler Stellaris Stargate Universe Reborn - Full conversion mod. Allows you to control your favorite race while trying to conquer the galaxy. :::

Space Empires IV and VTauri Shipset (SEV)

A lot of repositories are unfortunately not working now but Captain Kwok will hopefully be updating his website with all the files

XCom 2Stargate Glyph Face Paint and Voice packs

This was an hour long special released on Sci-fi on January 17th, 2005. Some hilarious interactions including reading online questions posed by viewers and a special Pierre Bernard and Micheal Shank interview!

Sorry for the vague question but I'm hoping there's a lot I"m missing. I know I can edit the side bar, icon, and banner. Make the community public or private and there's a "mod posting only" option. But is that it?

Some things I'm wondering about,

  • can I turn downvotes off or is that an instance only thing? (fan community, off topic would just be removed)
  • Is there any other way to manipulate the community page like backgrounds etc?
  • Flair's or post tags? Any community settings I looked over?
  • Allowing or disallowing bots (again is this an instance thing?)

I'm fine with what it is, just wanted to make sure there wasn't more I was missing with my options in the community.

Bonus question, besides crossposting and the "new communities" community sections, is there anything else I should do with a fresh community?

I'll kinda take a different approach since everyone's covered the basics with sex work. The problem with how you've presented it, is you're defining an act on how you perceive and want to regulate it. The simple question becomes, "should people have bodily autonomy?"

Everyone has a different opinion on what can be considered intimate/romantic. Some people feel a full body massage is too intimate, others a dinner with a co-worker is too romantic (not agreeing, just throwing out examples). If we start regulating based on how someone feels something should be perceived than it's a slippery slope. I can fully understand that you believe sex to be romantic while also realizing that others don't feel the same way or view it as a positive aspect of it. If it's not being forced on you then it shouldn't be a problem what consenting adults do in privacy.

It's obviously Under Armour, has the same kinda historical pun to it when you don't think about it too deep. I'm assuming Victoria Secret is accentuating femininity while under armour promotes masculinity.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make unless you're saying no one has to create a Discord account, or have to download an app, or have to find an invite to locate the server. My keys are auto-generated and auto-saved, simple 20 second process. Forums are also a lot easier to sign up for than Discord, if you're worried about making another account I don't know what to tell ya because every service requires it.
