Help for post-stroke recovery (hexbear.net)

Comrades, my partners mother suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in January.

Since then we’ve received the full brunt of how evil and uncaring this system is to poor people

Her mother is an immigrant from Brazil, she’s been naturalized for decades and worked that whole time but is apparently ineligible for Medicaid and disability bc she owns a house she got in her divorce

She isn’t able to get Medicare bc her ex husband isn’t quite old enough to get the benefits

She is a poor working class woman who worked meager jobs but worked consistently the last 30 years in this country but apparently that’s not good enough

She didn’t have insurance at the beginning of this but we got it for her this month (after waiting a month for it to kick in) only for them to deny her rehab coverage.

Every step of this has been something that would have radicalized me if I wasn’t already. The sheer indifference or incompetence of medical professionals, the millions of hoops to jump through for assistance, the over the top hyper specific means testing. It’s been a lot

Thanks comrade. She’s completely flaccid on the right side and mostly nonverbal. She also suffered a second minor stroke while in the hospital awaiting rehab this last week so that’s set her back a bit :/

I’m hoping she does too but she basically got kicked out of the hospital for an entire month for February where her daughters had to do her care.

Like every institution has completely failed her and is definitely not giving her the best chance for recovery :/

That's so terrible. I can't wrap my head around how that isn't an emergency. Death to America, and all the parasites latched onto the medical system.

The woman literally can’t take care of herself let alone work but is ineligible for disability like????

One would think there’d be something in place for these extreme cases but it’s basically like “hmm I see your problem, you should have had money”
