Italy has joined the "poor countries needing charity health work from Cuba". Who's the failed economic system now?

I'm also always impressed by how positive Cuban health workers abroad can be given the circumstances. Not only is their country being denied properiry by foreign powers, but in every country they go they are victims of demonisation campaigns by the bourgeois press, and they still manage to come out not hating the entire country they're sent to.

This reminds me of when Ukraine needed vaccines from India (roughly a decade ago)

WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

Dumb question, but did Ukraine do something towards India after that? I haven't heard about this.

I'm gonna try, I assume I'm wrong and someone can hopefully correct me...

India has a friendlier or neutral stance towards Russia due to its history with the Soviet Union. Something about a ship nearby some decades ago during the cold war scaring off some antagonistic ships?

I think India is also part of the non-aligned movement? The recent thing was a UN vote where India abstained? Something about recognizing something about the conflict... I think after that there was a statement by Ukraine or the Ukrainian President saying something like uh, wow I can't believe you didn't like super support us.

Communists sending doctors to treat people living under a Fascist.

Poetic.

A tiny island nation has the same number of doctors as the northern half of turtle island

What? That is a bizarre claim.

The US health ministry lists there being a little over 1 million registered doctors in the US, and the Cuban ministry lists 94,000 current doctors.

Canada is a little closer and lists 96,000 current doctors.

turtle island = north america

northern half of turtle island = canada

number of canadian doctors (96k) approximately equal to number of cuban doctors (94k)

My mistake, I for some reason thought Turtle island was both North and South America.

And Italy will return the favour by fucking over Cuba, again.

Cuba is the primary source of what little remains of my faith in humanity.

Edit: common Cuba W on this one, unsurprising how the Guardian tries to subtly push the narrative that medical staff are forced to go abroad in order for the Cuban government to make money.

Even with a piece where every Italian interviewed is praising it, the subtle narrative is still there.
