Stallone claps back at the critics of his daughter's casting. "First they go, 'Nepotism is terrible.' I said, 'Oh please, you're not a good parent if you haven't performed a little nepotism. Then obviously you don't care about your kids, because they come first,'" Stallone says. "'Of course it's nepotism, you idiot. That's why we're parents. We want the best for our children. So obviously we let them have every advantage.'"

The proud dad has one nonnegotiable caveat: The kid still has to earn it.

"Can they maintain that level of excellence? That's out of our hands," Stallone says. "But if you can open the door, we'll see if they have the ability to go through it. People will say, 'She got that job, it's too easy.' You're right. Perhaps it could be. But to maintain that, to be in front of millions of people, you either got it or you don't."

Stallone is doing the “saying it out loud” bit. Nepotism has ruled Hollywood for decades, the industry just pretends it’s not there.

I prefer this frank honesty. Let the ruling class openly distance themselves from us and become alien and detestable to the masses, like the aristocracies of old europe. That way it's easier to form class consciousness and understand who our enemies are, drop the facade of meritocratic republicanism. Snip off the left wing of capital and watch it fall from the sky, no longer able to justify itself ideologically.

the first few episodes of that show were not terrible. the premise is a decent idea, but stallone is like 80 so him playing an aged-out enforcer that can still intimidate in a pinch got real bad, quickly. it's pretty clear they didn't really have a planned arc, so it sprawled into a big mess of dumb shit. it's too bad, because martin starr is hilarious. also, stallone is like, i dunno, not capable of creating the impression he is some big brain puppet master. he looks like he's gotten lost on the way to the craft services table half the time.

if they would have done it with someone else, who was like 40 or maybe 50, it could have been interesting and more realistic... a 40 year old tough guy who, after doing 15 in prison and came out wise after going in dumb but loyal. that's an interesting set up.

I can confirm this. You're describing the protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and it was definitely interesting. I'd like to see Sly Stallone try to run a confection company and shoot lightning bolts from a baseball bat. 😤

I'm sure she knows she'll need to prove herself more than most actors in order to get anyone but casting directors to take her seriously the way Jack Quaid says he does.

And this is how it goes. Lowering your standards so you don’t even expect meritocracy anymore.
