Some life sucks and there's are bad things happening, but it sounds like you've been on the Internet too much and got bad world syndrome. Might be time to detox and actively try to focus on good things around you. If you gotta go online watch stuff about uplifting news, that stuff never gets covered nor talked about enough. Right now your brain is wired and primed for threats and bad things and you need to widen your scope a bit.

It's important to keep in mind that everyday we all stare at the rectangles whose purpose is to show us all the terrible things occurring far and wide.
Emotions like fear and anger are very attention grabbing so they're prioritized by the rectangles.
Everyone knows the odds of winning the lottery are so bad that it's pointless to play, but people keep buying tickets. Why? Because the TV is always showing you people winning the lottery! Imagine if for every news story about a lottery winner they had to give an equal amount of time to every loser? Do you think people would still ny lottery tickets?
Lower trust.
Ever experience the difference between a low trust society and a high trust society? At one point in my life, I would bring my car in for an oil change and I'd bring new oil too, because I couldn't trust the mechanic to not fill my car up with waste grease from the restaurant next door to save a buck. I would, of course, also watch them do the work to make sure they didn't just steal my good oil and fill it up with waste grease anyway.
Then I moved to a high trust society. Suddenly, I was just a paranoid motherfucker, because who would try to screw you over in such a dumb way?
I imagine that people getting out of prison have similar experiences. Prisons tend to be low trust societies, where everyone has an angle. Then you get out, and you have to get used to the idea that everyone isn't, in fact, trying to screw you over for their own benefit.
High trust societies are starting to run into low trust issues.
Unchecked capitalism. It really isn’t any more complex than this.
All capitalism is unchecked capitalism eventually, since the capitalists will always have an advantage in propaganda and be able to buy the government, even if it's just a little at a time at first.
who could have predicted that rewarding psychopathic traits would lead to having psychopaths in charge? 🤔
Deregulation and tax cuts in the 80s led to he decline of social systems and they haven't recovered since. Now the richest are 1000x richer than they were back then and nobody else has money.
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
― Douglas Adams
Mindless evolution cannot know what it has created. Unfortunately it makes things like carnivores, viruses, parasites, etc. Life eat life planet for the animals. Or feasts on the corpses. Humans showed up after all the competing two legged competitors got wiped out leaving only us, a mix of everyone we could breed with included. We have a gradient of different types of minds some of which are violently incompatible with the others, some of which are objectively detrimental to all living things while they live and breathe. The rich and powerful that always end up in charge have been the same the entire time and are rarely defeated for long. Another point: We have private mail of various Pharaohs from ancient Egypt. Look at how greedy and self interested they all are, with huge egos which are easily injured:
One of which is begging the Pharaoh for gold so intensely, that it started to remind me of:
Give orange me give eat orange me eat orange give me eat orange give me you
Same as it ever was.
its human greed. its our fatal flaw...the inability to let go the raw animal instinct of greed.
that is the single common thread with all of humanities failures.
do we deserve to move off this planet if we cant solve the empathy problem? Id say no.
my therapist says i need more pills when i start talking like that
That seems like a bad thing to say. Maybe more therapy but more pills?
The pills help you get to and better adapt to what is discussed in therapy.
What is being discussed uses language that was decided by the same DSM that up until a few decades ago labeled homosexuality as a mental illness and caused Turing to be chemically castrated with the same estrogen that trans people line up for today, and then to kill himself over the violation of his bodily autonomy, and then to be stamped on £50 bills as a retroactive apology. That's what's being discussed.
Language is used to pathologize people for seeing things objectively. Systemic critique gets converted into personal failure. If you look at how the anglosphere operates through language you'll realize that 99% of English serves the grammatical purpose of shifting the blame downwards and to pathologize people with thought-terminating clichés that imply that their own "free will" (which can't be proven to exist and which the elite doesn't believe in) is the root of their problems. Not the material conditions. But your reaction to them. Obviously. Because it's never material conditions created by a person who can be punched, it's always something wrong with you specifically. And with an ever-increasing proportion of the world population, apparently. The rise of depression is proof that the therapist class is doing a shit job at healing people, mostly because if they heal you they can't pay their mortgage anymore; and besides it's not like they can actually fix capitalism so they just sell you copium and tell you that you should be glad to be huffing it.
So in conclusion: why does everything suck? Because language is captured so thoroughly that you can't even express the plain truth that your eyes observe without being categorized as something that can be used to reduce you to a manageable stereotype. So you internalize the stereotype and wonder why the cognitive dissonance you're feeling hurts so much, and then you're billed hourly to cope with it.
In order to succeed and be happy you don't need therapy, you need lawyers who can litigate semantics and threaten people until they give up and leave you alone. Impunity is happiness for the untouchable.
the pills are very very expensive.
AND THEY'RE MAKING RICH PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM EVEN MORE RICH!!!
But they come with a free frogurt!
I keep thinking we need a mass movement
Taking a slightly different tack, I think a lot of the extractive destruction of our quality of life is due to our failure to understand the sociopathy of the ultrawealthy and how preventing them is necessary for our way of life.
The "middle class* as we think of it is an historical aberration. Most of recorded history is a few owners and roughly everyone else living in poverty. That's what I see coming down the bend if we don't act pretty damn soon
So dogs actively playing in a park makes you think about how their owners must suck and leave them indoors? That's a you problem bud. There are very real problems in this world, but it seems you can't even see a good thing without twisting it into a bad thing. You should get some help with that.
Capitalism is a cancer that eats itself. That was always true, but the can that the boomers kicked down the road has become an avalanche that will crush all of us. The billionaires know this but think they can still make their lieftimes cozy with enough money (which is all they really care about).
I've been struggling with these things too.
People used to care, or at least be conscious of problems in the world and what was required to help mitigate some of them. Now all intentions and pretense have faded away.
And maybe it's just me, but I feel like getting others to participate in boycotts was easier in The Before Times. There seemed to be more solidarity and unity in voting with your wallet.
But people nowadays refuse to sacrifice even a tiny bit of whatever vice of theirs is being provided by [ShittyCorporation] that gives them their dopamine hit.
Suggesting to folks that maybe they shouldn't give their money to Starbucks because the CEO funds IDF activities, and getting back "I know they suck but I really like [froufrou drink] and I can't live without it"
Suggesting that the reason nothing is changing in these companies shitty practices is because people don't participate in boycotts as much, to go without some very small creature comforts and then suddenly you're the asshole, the fun police, "not letting people enjoy things," etc.
Trying to effect positive change by convincing others to modify their habits just a tiny bit, is impossible because most people do not care about the greater good anymore, they only care about what immediately makes themselves happy. It's really disheartening.
A lot of things do suck, but for me at least it's important to focus on what actually sucks and what I think sucks because I'm angry at other things.
Having issues with this state of capitalism we're in is fair, it's a legitimate problem and affects everyone. Even non-capitalist proponents of capitalism feel the effects, but when they look for the source of their pain their vision gets redirected away from the capitalists.
But feeling frustrated with people bringing their dogs to the park is a waste of your energy. I get this way too, I understand it, but you're going to wear yourself down.
My unsolicited advice is to try really hard to find something positive to grab onto. Dogs for example. Find a way to enjoy the pure heartedness of dogs and mentally don't let it touch the problems with humans. Treat it as a sort of pressure release valve when your frustrations with capitalism start to expand in scope, something that you keep simple and straightforward and positive.
That way your anger stays focused.
There’s a video showing what Bhutan changed into after TV was introduced into their country. Turns out consumerism is an incredibly powerful and manipulative force. Humans essentially have no defense against it.
