I've been struggling with these things too.
People used to care, or at least be conscious of problems in the world and what was required to help mitigate some of them. Now all intentions and pretense have faded away.
And maybe it's just me, but I feel like getting others to participate in boycotts was easier in The Before Times. There seemed to be more solidarity and unity in voting with your wallet.
But people nowadays refuse to sacrifice even a tiny bit of whatever vice of theirs is being provided by [ShittyCorporation] that gives them their dopamine hit.
Suggesting to folks that maybe they shouldn't give their money to Starbucks because the CEO funds IDF activities, and getting back "I know they suck but I really like [froufrou drink] and I can't live without it"
Suggesting that the reason nothing is changing in these companies shitty practices is because people don't participate in boycotts as much, to go without some very small creature comforts and then suddenly you're the asshole, the fun police, "not letting people enjoy things," etc.
Trying to effect positive change by convincing others to modify their habits just a tiny bit, is impossible because most people do not care about the greater good anymore, they only care about what immediately makes themselves happy. It's really disheartening.
