I have hairy toes with poor blood flow, so I'm a little skeptical.

I have renauds syndrome where my hands and feet are usually dead blocks of ice like a corpse that the Donner party couldn't eat because it got too cold.

My feet are so hairy that I often wonder what utopia of a world I would live in if Lord of the Rings never existed.

I'm with you on being skeptical of the claim that hairy toes are a sign of good circulation.

    Oh dear.

I use to have really hairy toes. I just checked and they are bald. Damn.

I have naturally hairless toes and it has made several doctors check to see if I have diabetes.

Oh I know why they are bald. I just never noticed they were till I saw the post.

But definitely not diabetes. Just tons of other health issues I'm reluctant to post about with all the ai programs scraping the open internet.

I believe this an outdated piece of medical advice based on cardiovascular health and arterial disease

Alright Lemmy graduates of Hollywood Upstairs Medical College: why are my toes hairy but my feet are always cold?

Increased bloodflow can actually drop the temperature of the limb. For instance, alcohol might make you feel warm, but due to the vasodilation you're actually losing heat.

That is not how it works, unless we drop the temperature from a higher level down, e.g. when you have your hand in hot water or sunshine.

From the cold side it can only get warmer. That works until you die, which is not exactly relevant here. But the core temperature will, even then, still be higher (aka heating the limb) and there is no way around that due to how heat works.

Same. My toes and feet are so hairy but if it's below 65 F my feet literally turn blue.

Probably Reynaud's Phenomenon. I'm been diagnosed with this. My fingers and toes are often very cold and change colors (blue, purple, or even white). I'd suggest you talk to your doctor as there are medications that can help with this and it could be connected to an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder or connective tissue disorder.

I've thought about Reynauds, but my skin never turns white, just blue. I also get tingling sometimes in my heels, but never in my toes or fingers (which also turn blue). The people I've met with Reynauds also talk about it being painful and I've never had pain.

I have reynauds and for a long time it just skipped white. Also it's rarely painful for me, which led to me just leaving my arms blood deficient too long

Are you particularly hard to draw blood from? And is it sometimes slower than normal, especially when it's cold?

I am actually a stupidly easy stick. I am IV trained myself and for funsies and experience I've started large bore IVs in my own foot and ankle and also started a large bore IV one handed in my arm. I'll have to ask my doctor about it next time I see her.

I just mentioned it elsewhere in this thread, you might have Reynaud's phenomenon. It's a disorder that causes the capillaries in your fingers and toes (and elsewhere) to spasm and constrict when you are cold or stressed restricting blood flow. I suggest you talk to your doctor as it can be associated with other conditions.

I can bring a little more blood flow to your ass, instead.

I'm basically a werewolf, so I guess I must have great circulation.

Which is weird because my hands and feet are always cold to the touch.

I have no blood flow over most of my body then. I'm nearly hairless except on my head and my junk... I'm going to die.

Same. Virtually no body hair at all except junk. My facial hair grows really slowly, and I have toe hair. I don't even really have underarm hair to speak of. Also have gone bald.

I wonder if I am some sort of very tall elf/hobbit hybrid...

  • You're body is doing the opposite of mine, got body hair by 8, a stache by 12, and a full and proper lumberjack beard by 21 I am slowly turning into Cousin Itt at 26. Don't mix Scottish and German blood unless you want to accidentally creat Homo-Neanderthalensis.

I have noticed the beard has increased a bit in the last 5 years or so. I'm 35 now, and can actually have facial hair, I just have a longer than average awkward period. In my twenties, I had huge patches of missing hair. Including an almost exactly circular, US quarter sized missing spot on my chin. That was weird. Lol

I could grow a ok goatee when they were in, I also had a 5+ inch soul patch at one time in my 20's. My issue was I had a a bit bigger than your missing hair patch on both of my cheeks.

Hard to grow a beard missing those eh? So I get ya :)

I have near zero hair on my head but ears down I grow hair like it’s going out of style. I’m a little worried my body feels the need to provide blood to all the places i don’t want or need it, but skips the most important part.

I could pretty much braid the hair on my toes if I wanted to. I guess that means I'm healthy?

  • [–] 3 points 4 days ago

Ass health also requires good blood flow. Hang in there champ!
