As a student, I feel this so hard. My school canceled every Master's-level class section with less than 15 students and now I'm stuck in 3 16-week AI/ML-centric classes. I suppose I'll at least be well prepared to sit through useless mandatory trainings once I enter the workforce, if I can find a job. I'd say I'm more than ready to graduate so I can be rid of this AI bullshit but I think I really just want to move somewhere remote and become a hermit.

I'm required to use AI at work, so I skip training and have claude burn tokens on a summary of the transcript which I won't read. Sometimes job requirements handle each other.

Before I got laid off, I was told by my manager of the company I was contracted to that people higher than him were wondering why I hadn't installed the copilot extension in vscode; he strongly recommended I do so. So I did install it. I then proceeded to immediately set the ignored file types to "*" (which, for those who might not know, is shorthand for "everything".) I didn't hear anything about it afterwards.

I was just told today that ai usage is a factor in hiring and promotion. They didn't say the AI usage had to be smart.

My boss, to his credit, reportedly said something like "well, if someone is already good at python they might not need as much AI to do a task than someone who isn't". I don't think management cared.

The worst part about these sorts of training courses, in my experience, they don't even teach anything. Its just a bunch of buzzward jargon trying to sell you on the topic.

Opinions on AI aside, I don't need to be pitched on using AI, (or many other topics) as training. Give me actual training. "Do X, see what happened? Now try Y, see how its different, these are why they are different/better/worse than Z, these are ways you would use X, Y, or Z."

"Ooh, sorry, my religious beliefs prohibit me from using AI models as they have been made using stolen intellectual property, and I am not able to participate in theft."

Ugh, my work mandated doing an "AI training" course too that everyone needs to do until October 31st. Luckily I'm leaving the company at the end of September so I can just ignore the deadline.

We use Copilot to make memes that we share on Teams. What else are we gonna do with it? It's useless for anything remotely productive.
