They'd just start fights and subjugate their vulnerable residents.

They should have been kept as puppet states after the civil war.

That's not how humans work. We're lazy.

You ever use snapshot tests? They're garbage. They're garbage because people glance at a 300 line diff and go "that seems right", because a good chunk of the time it is. But some portion of the time, it's borked up.

Having it in git doesn't solve that problem.

"Exactly". "Truly". "Literally, in the traditional sense not the post modern sense where it means emphatically or figuratively"

. I’m a bit surprised the Christian following hasn’t gone there.

Many Christians are theologically incompetent. They don't know their scripture. They just like feeling good.

People mandating return to office are climate criminals, all. They should be sentenced to picking up litter and other community service for the rest of their lives.

You didn't feel drained by "oh I have to go get the bell bearing. And I should go get the stats talisman"? Different strokes, I guess!

Out of pure interest, have you played Lies of P? If so, what are your thoughts on it? (I enjoyed your rapid-fire list of opinions above.)

I did play Lies of P! It was pretty okay, but not quite as good as its inspirations. The parry system is not nearly as good as sekiro. The weapon modification system is interesting, but I found the slow weapons are too slow to be fun. There's no poise, and they don't do mega damage, so you whiff or get interrupted a lot. There's also next to no exploration, aside from the occasional short cut opening.

I'd recommend it to fans of the genre that have already played the main line games.

It's one of those self fueling problems. Businesses post on Instagram because people go there, and people go there in part because that's where they found out about businesses doing stuff.

Better options are possible, but the big money is backing this hell. Less money to be made from RSS feeds , web rings, and email newsletters.

I don't use any social media other than this. I find out about bands I like playing from their email lists or bandsintown. I'm on a couple "things happening in the city" email newsletters. It doesn't demand my attention.

Living without a car in NYC is pretty great. That's whole categories of expenses I don't have.

Took the train last night to an event, walked to a nearby bar, walked to get some pizza, took the bus home. Easy-peasy.

Someone in the friend group took a car (Lyft) home, but I can't imagine wanting to spend like $30 to save maybe 20 minutes in that situation.

"best" is hard to define and measure.

Sekiro is like dance. Once it clicks it's deeply satisfying. Sometimes I just open it up and download the boss fights for fun (via the re-fight bosses option). There's really no filler or farting around. Amazing sword combat game.

Elden Ring is magnificent, but sort of counter intuitively I find replaying it less appealing. It's very big and once you know where some of the key things are, new games feel like that have chores to get startrd. "Ok, I gotta get the +5 stats thing from up there, then get the upgrade material thing from there...". The first time you play it blind, every nook and cave is mysterious. It's also harder at its baseline than the others. Using all the tools provided brings it to a more comparable level.

Dark souls 1 is a classic. Unparalleled atmosphere.

Dark Souls 2 is janky in parts but a good effort.

Dark Souls 3 is good, but at times feels old hat. Maybe if you've never played the others it would avoid that.

Bloodborne I only recently finished. When I tried it like 10 years ago it seemed super hard. After playing elden ring, it felt easy. Good atmosphere and gameplay, though.

One thing they all have in common is they don't really hold your hand. They don't assume you'll win. That throws people off. Like if you play fallout 4, it just assumes you're going to win every fight. It's not really challenging you.

Unfortunately, laws only matter when they're enforced and people have equal access. It's easier to management to just break the law and, in the unlikely event someone challenges it, deal with it using their vast resources.

That's why I think the penalities for anti labor actions should be capital (sorry, pun). If you do anything to fuck with labor, your life should be ruined. Assets seized, lifetime prohibition of management roles.

I think a lot about how one place I worked at, when people started talking salaries, Management said that was a fireable offense.

Personally I think everyone involved in saying that should have been barred from management roles for life.

But because most of the people working there were in their early 20s, with no power alone and no organization, they went along with it.

Some years later the company build a salary comparison tool on their website.

I really would like to somehow convince more people to adopt the idea that, like, Facebook and friends are run by bad people and you can choose not to use their products. Just stop. Find another way. Be uncomfortable for a little while.

But people aren't up to the challenge.
