I got married last night.

My partner and I have been living as though we were married for over a decade but haven't had the actual marriage license for various reasons. I'm going to have good insurance soon, so it makes sense to get married so my partner can be covered

We got married online by a service that uses the 1 county in the US that allows it. The guy who did the service was actually amazing. He seemed genuinely happy for us, didn't try to push any kind of particular process or religious stuff, and actually got a little teary eyed at the end.

I live in the poorest part of my city, and just found out an apartment complex I walk past everyday is in the middle of a tenant strike against their Israeli slumlord. Even the people here I like I've met haven't read any actual leftist texts, so seeing people so close to me geographically take direct action is cool

I love my mom but every time we talk about work and stuff I have to find new and unique ways to explain to her that I'm not interested in spending every single waking moment of my life earning money and I really just want to spend the minimum amount of time working so that I can buy food for me and my dog and pursue my hobbies and even stuff like my plan to add more certifications to my resume is really just me pursuing ways to reduce the number of hours per week I have to work to make just barely enough.

This is a small rant. Don’t mind me. I’m just a little pissy right now.

CW: The following paragraphs discuss some touchy subjects but don’t go far into detail about them. Suicidal ideation alluded to as well.

I’ve been around these parts for a very long time. Over ten years now in total if you include the subreddit when it was around. To this day, I still don’t quite understand the general culture that were centered around.

Like I thought this community was built from general empathy and attempting to minimize issues for others. Things such as requiring CWs for touchy topics (e.g. meat, suicidal ideation, and the like) was always a thing that seemed central to how hexbear in particular was built. Empathy really being the central theme. Seemingly.

Gods save me if I’m not reminded quite often that it’s not the case. Particularly getting pretty ratioed in that topic involving the new Kelly comic being the newest example. Another being having some folks minimizing SA (this one was a bit ago). And the last time I left the site was someone triggering me to the lowest point in my life. I’m genuinely glad I’m still alive after that. The individual in question blocked me and had no repercussions enacted upon them. I will forever be sour about that interaction and I genuinely have no idea why I came back here after that, but here I am.

What I’m saying here ultimately is that, in my eyes, admin and mods need to consider a few things. One is they need to iron out the rules a little better, figuring out what falls where and where boundaries exist. Two is that the rules then need to actually be implemented and proper punishment meted out against offending individuals. Cause honestly, just as it always has been, things are not done evenly here and never has been. And really, empathy should be a central theme for this community, all things considered.

So I've been living pretty much as a NEET for the past 4-5 years or so. I have severe ADHD and only in recent years did I get prescribed Elvanse, and while they do help, I'm still struggling to deal with the bad habits and instant gratification addiction I built up over the 20+ years before then. After a lot of denial I've had to accept that I cannot have a healthy relationship with things like video games and youtube and have to banish them from my life pretty much entirely. Which is easier said than done because they've been my life for years now.

Getting rid of gaming is the easier part. I've unplugged my PC and placed it in my parents' room. Unplugged all the cables too and put them in a cable drawer so if I were to get the urge to game again, it would be too much of a hassle to turn the PC on again and it'd no longer be instant gratification.

Youtube is the bigger hurdle because it's so much more accessible. I deleted the app from my devices and put website blockers on my laptop and smart devices. I've gone several weeks without gaming multiple times but I have never made it more than two days without opening youtube.

I'm currently on Day 9 with no games and about 15 hours with no YT. I'm sitting in my basement, staring at my laptop screen which has literally every possible distraction outlet blocked and/or uninstalled. The lack of stimulation is intense. The classic chronic ADHD leg-shaking is so intense rn that it's making me sore, I'm constantly biting my lip, sometimes hitting my leg with my fist or hitting my desk with the palm of my hand. Dopamine withdrawal symptoms I suppose? Has anyone else been in a situation like this? Does it go away? I guess I've been frying my brain with overstimulation for years now, I just hope I can un-fry it.

Falafel is the greatest food thing ever. In a wrap, dipped in stuff, just by itself, cheap, easy af, delicious. I used my work skills and kitchen scale to figure out the food cost for each falafel wrap I mske at home. It is like $1.50 per wrap. You gotta spend in bulk, but chicken pea flour, spices, veggies to pickle all last. For things that expire its hummus or garlic for the vegan garlic sauce I make using chickpea juice,the fresh veggies and the pita bread. There is a really big lebanese presence foodwise in my city that has been aroind long enough that there is a local pita bakery that does damn well and has a huge shelf of their misshapen or old ones outside the bakery every day, i could happily live off falafel and veggies in a pita for every meal I ever eat

Tough conversations with the partner about moving. I want to move to the bigger city near by, closer to work with more parks and people I know and social activities and recreational activities, but they're worried about the pets (2 cats + dog) not getting enough enrichment in an apartment. We might not even be forced into an apartment but that's beside the point

The life I want to live is passing me by here, I'm not getting the enrichment I need, and neither is my partner. I'm convinced we'd be happier, which would be good for the pets!
