The first vice president of the Assembly of Ceuta and deputy of the PSOE [the ruling Socialist party of PM Pedro Sanchez], Melchor León, has directed an open letter to Pedro Sánchez to demand immediate intervention in light of the situation the city is facing after the massive influx of migrants recorded at the end of July.

In his writing, he asks the president of the Government to declare a state of alarm, activate a national interest emergency, and request a permanent deployment of Frontex at the border.

The writing takes on a particularly personal tone when León describes how, according to his account, the crisis has affected the daily life of Ceuta. "This August, the children of Ceuta have not gone to the beach. We have run out of parties," he states.

He also refers to the situation of businesses and the concern of part of the population. "There are women in my city who think twice before leaving home," he writes, before assuring that there are parents who do not know what to answer their children when they ask why they cannot go to the park.

A city can endure almost anything," he concludes in that passage. "What cannot be endured is not knowing."

...

The letter ends with a direct request to Pedro Sánchez: "Give us back the truth. Give us back normality. And set a date."

...

León emphasizes in the letter his connection to the PSOE, although he insists that his request is made from his position as a representative and neighbor of Ceuta.

Spain's government did not heed their warnings and took little action ...

Public and private warnings issued by trade unions representing border workers, seen by Reuters, highlight that Spanish authorities were warned weeks earlier that arrivals to the enclave in North Africa could escalate and urged to act fast.

Spanish authorities say 80 people died in the rush and Moroccan authorities said 14 bodies were recovered in their territory, putting the number of confirmed deaths at 94. Human rights groups say more remain missing and the number could be higher ...

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)
