The universe seems to be as far as we know now physically infinite and homogeneous. That means all possible arrangements of matter exits. In any direction you can point there would be an atom for atom copy of the earth and it's entire history including a copy ofe writing this comment as well as all others permutations. There's no need for jumping to new universes at all depending on the nature of consciousness.
In a sea of infinite realities and infinite timeline jumps which is the original?
I sometimes think about this playing video games, especially Tomb Raider. The protagonist never ever failed. From their perspective they must feel invincible. Kind of explains Lara's cocky attitude.
Don't follow that to its logical conclusion, you are fated to experience the heat death of the universe.
It is more like an interstate with many off ramps: the road ends eventually but not everyone makes it to the last exit.

The stairs, however, have probably done me in dozens of times. I frequently say “how have I not died on these stairs yet??” As I nearly slip once more.
Somewhere, somewhen, there is a version of me who made all the right decisions and is living a truly great life.
And everyday I give big props to them, while just doing the best I can each day and continue making questionable decisions sometimes.
This seems like the premise to an anime I haven't heard of yet 🤣

Ever thought about the possibility that we are all moving through neighbouring quantum realities constantly but there was a point where the Mandela affect kicked in and a full branch of reality was lost.
Like layers of collapsing realities as the consciousnesses filter out to ones they're still alive in. Simulation is running out of wholly unique universes so it starts to let close enough do. Now we have to deal with Berenstain/Berenstein and people who have broken logic for this reality.
Like when I before e except after c was correct except it never was and entire generations grew up spelling words incorrectly
