She says many people inheriting their genetics from east Asia cannot pick up on it well with their nose. But other than this minority, most people can.

You can buy the molecule alone, by itself with no additions, simply to enhance your smell without adding anything else.

If you've ever wanted a lovely podcast about perfumes, this is it. I like looking at the bottles too.

I always wanted to buy a molecule, do they come in singles or bulk?

I get this for free by not showering

I guess this is a much better marketing pitch than Synthetic Musk, based on formulas that were made from animals.

That's right, you smell like beaver's butt. That's You.

afaik beaver butts actually smell like vanilla.

I looked up how the scent is harvested. Why are they still taking dead beaver parts and when so many things smell like vanilla already? Like there's abundant fake vanilla that most people enjoy.

Since making part of my diet vegan/vegetarian I've been noticing how weird uneccessary use of animal parts are. Especially when there's abundant cheaper alternatives.

I love little genetic quirks like this. Like, why does cilantro taste like soap to me? Such small differences leading to a separate perception of reality

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

so i like cilantro but i can absolutely smell cilantro in some soaps and detergents, i have to assume the "tastes like soap" gene is something different than whatever i got going on but either way it's a funky coincidence

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah, it.tastes lile soap to me but I like it anyway

I don't want to smell like me, I want to smell like a jazz club

[-] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's totally fair. She's just mentioning how old perfumes smelled more like lifeforms and now we're going back to that via this molecule.

She talks about how many perfumes now smell mehhh because living things that went in old perfume were part of what made them smell gorgeous. And they were made illegal ingredients because they were parts of animals that are now protected, like ambergris(whale vomit seasoned by sunshine and sea salt, strangely enough), and other natural things like lichen that gave a miniscule part of the population rashes. I think I may one day try the molecule to smell more like life itself.

It sounds really cool!

[-] BobDole@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Bob Dole smells like jazz cigarettes

Video won't load for me. What's the name of the perfume that contains it and the molecule?

[-] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

I'll just change it back to the Original YT link.

The not-perfume is called M02.

Molecule 02 consists of Ambroxan, pure and singular. Ambroxan is a crystal-chemical structure identical to the ambrox derived from ambergris.

This sample set has M02 included in it. It is cheaper than the full bottle of M02, and includes other fun molecules idk anything about. I want this set I want it I want it! But I have scarcity mindset with money so I'm probably not getting it. :/

I forgot that the fragrance industry was so greedy jeez.

Makes sigma-aldrich prices look reasonable.

[-] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Yeah it's pretty fucked up just how greedy
