Someone came back in here after leaving for a bit, and I think I drove them off again. They ended up deleting their second account entirely, I think.

I’m sorry about that.

based on a brief skim through tanis' comment history from the past day and my memory of who i've seen on here in the past weeks, the drama in question appears to be related to a post from about two weeks ago which some people requested be marked nsfw/spoiler due to concerns about flashing lights and people with epilepsy, and the OOP taking it as a personal criticism of their art.

That, and also I know I’m not the most comforting and “uwu so cute” sort of woman around, and didn’t praise her when she praised me, but I did show gratitude that she was back.

For what its worth I think you handled it fine and it's important to speak up for accessibility concerns. I really respect you.

I try my best out there. Thanks for being an important part of this place, and a really cool person in your own right.

Essentially, someone worked fairly long at making some sort of video art; I couldn’t tell you what was in it cause the art was an epileptic’s strobing nightmare and it nearly knocked me out. I marked the art with an epilepsy warning, then they figured we hated them, as a community, and they left.

So they came back a few days later with a long and winding post which spoke a bit of self-reflection and needing to make amends, and I wrote a reply saying that I’m glad they’re back and I’m glad the acknowledged epileptic people. In the same comments they mentioned they showered me with praise and compliments but that I didn’t do the same in return. I know full well compliments and praise aren’t transactional, they aren’t turns in a board game, and I told her that’s how I roll, but that I prefer sincere gratitude instead, and I hand that out all the time.

And then I was met with this and when I told her not to say the C-word, she deletes her account.

I could have handled this a lot better, but now there’s a member of our community with less support.

Edit: WRONG WRONG WRONG. Sorry I was mistaken.

I checked the logs yesterday(?) when I went back to try to write a welcome back message and couldn't find the post. Apparently the account was banned rather than deleted.

You're fine no need to apologize.

Oh! I thought she self-deleted!

Well, if she was banned, it was nothing I did, I think. I tried my best.

I was wrong sorry sorry sorry

I rechecked the log since you posted a screenshot and I could verify the username and I was mistaken. Someone else was banned shortly before the self deletion and I assumed they were one and the same.

I still don't think you handled the situation poorly. She will be welcome back if she chooses to return.

Though I may not be willing to engage in quite the same way as a lot of people here, Lemmy is very near and dear to me, and I don't want my modlog to be any longer than it already is. :)
