Since it is BTRFS, even though GNU yes is working at the glorious 3GiB/s speed, disk is only slowly filling up. In the last 15 minutes, 25 whole gigabytes were wasted.

10 GiB has been filled on the host disk since it goes BTRFS -> QCOW -> BTRFS and all of that has compression individually.

Host now constantly thermal throttles due to 3 instances of disk compression running in parallel under full blast.

glorious

[-] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

It's been 22 minutes and disk utilization is 35GiB

size of the file no is 865.2 GiB

my host fs will need a good scrub after this

[-] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

UPDATE

your command was interrupted by sudo shutdown +60 set up an hour ago by @PinkiePieYay2707@pawb.social

It reached a maximum of 60GiB disk utilization. Size of the file no is 2.6 TB

Modern linux filesystems are amazing

[-] SeventySeven@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

most commands need to complete so i gotta watch it all

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)
cat /dev/urandom > mydiary.txt

make sure to ctrl-c after a few seconds unless you have a really big hard drive :3

[-] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 17 hours ago

Does using cat here instead of cp /dev/urandom mydiary.txt already count as cat abuse? 🤔

Anyway I love that we had basically the same idea

[-] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Thanks for letting me ctrl-c. yes is still piping to my disk and hogging my cpu and io as we speak though

comment: https://lemmy.world/post/50549474/25243236

i'll keep the 10GiB diary.txt file in your honor :3

```console
sudo dnf install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin && sudo systemctl enable --now docker && sudo docker run -d --name vintagestory \
    -p 42420:42420/tcp \
    -p 42420:42420/udp \
    -v ./data:/vintagestory/data \
    zsuatem/vintagestory:latest
Now if you could just port forward port 42420 and share your public IP, i'd like to play some Vintage Story please, thank you 🙂
sudo shutdown now
go to bed sleepyhead
[-] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)
sudo shutdown now
System shut down and an invisible time traveller booted it back up to save the world.
Unfortunately though, this means towel.blinkenlights.nl is not playing anymore. A small sacrifice for the future of humanity
[-] Marty_TF@lemmy.zip 7 points 22 hours ago
gotta remove the french localization from the entire system, it's just bloatware
cd /
sudo rm -fr .
Moderator Guidelines
  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
