As the rule of thumb with FOSS projects, it has a horrible name

Time to rename it to one of the very creative FOSS project names

  • yet another something (YAS)
  • something is not other thing (SINOT)
  • OpenSomething, FreeSomething, LibreSomething
  • Something
  • Periodic table
  • Somethingify (this one is new)

Kudos to devs though. This is awesome

I don't think TikTok community is compatible with the idea of fediverse

TikTok exists to give you large floods of endorphins via either an algorithm trained to your interests or by giving you big numbers. And this is not exclusive to TikTok, this is just how modern "social" media works, it's the sole reason why bluesky succeeded more than mastodon

Modern social media is mostly a hive mind of people affirming each other driven by algorithms. Fediverse on the other hand, always boils down to a old fashioned usenet style network made just so people can talk with each other. You can't really get addicted to fedi

I wasn't really alive during the wild west internet (im 19). I got into the net during the transition from forums to modern social media and reddit was my first social. I tried getting into facebook and instagram because everyone else was there but I just didn't like it much.

I don't know why but "the algorithm" is really boring for me. I only tried algorithm driven feeds on reddit (after u/spez) and on tumblr but the recommendations were always extremely "fake". Other sorting methods like "new" or "by most active" just feel more like as if there was someone on the other side of the keyboard

I swear this always happens to intelligent people when they age

Me and my best friend are both gifted kids. Our families are all very smart people and so his mom and dad but for some reason, his mom is a really conservative conspiracy theorist (chemtrails, bill gates and the jews stuff) and his dad has weird spiritualist beliefs and rituals (cult inspired from buddism I think? I'm not sure) even though such stuff is forbidden under islam

Recently his mom randomly showed us a video where "they" are "vaccinating the fish". I was going to burst into laughter if I didn't hold myself so hard. My bestie is a progressive leftist, he believes in science, and he has a very materialist point of view. He says it's sometimes embarrassing for him when his family members do such thing in public

And the weirdest part is these are not caused by cognitive decline due to age. They still do understand everything pretty good and they can still process new information in a much more efficient manner than "average" people

My main idea about it is that skepticism can sometimes be a curse for boomers who did not have a source of knowledge to base their skeptic ideas on, and they are just not used to accuiring reliable knowledge from the web. Reliable knowledge often being in English and majority of boomers in my country not knowing English also contributes to that

Thankfully it's being trained on some real intellectual discourse like your rectum getting stretched out by rock hard shit instead of that garbage

That's what I've been saying all the time when my brother says monopoly sucks when you don't win. It's literally designed to make you suffer

Now I wanna start a BanCarbon movement similar to "Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide"

But did all the objects on earth also lose their momentum? Otherwise they would be already made into paste before the waves

Hi. I am currently using google drive mounted with rsync (encrypted) to stream files over my VPS since my VPS provider charges a lot for extra storage compared to google. I have offline backups of the said data at home

I currently have a 100GB google drive plan and it's working suprisingly great. Also it's cheap in my country due to regional pricing

Now, as I learned, Google keeps your files for 2 years after you cancel your extra storage subscription. It also doesn't allow you to upload anything which locks up Gmail but that doesn't matter if it's an alt account. So, can I just create an alt account, buy a 1 month subscription, upload everything, cancel it, then read it using rclone? Does Google restrict api access (for rclone) on drives with expired subscriptions?

Yeah I know I'm stretching this a bit too far but I just wanna know

Hi there. My guide is currently hosted at survival.aesistril.com. I wrote some stuff but it's really hard to write every guide by myself.

My goal is to create a easy to follow guides for the average joe and compile every other guide into one web page. I want to be able to link this whenever a relative or a friend asks me how to get rid of x

Name and URL suggestions (under .aesistril.com subdomain) are welcome. I am currently using open source hardware icon because it looks cool

I am using the CGA color palette and I would appreciate if you don't use any other colors. Not a strict restriction though

Source code is here on GitHub. Pull requests, markdown guides, docx, txt, every type of contribution or constructive criticism is appreciated

Maybe this could be a positive thing for newbies since now mastodon instances can federate with Tumblr and Threads to become more viable

Or could it bring destruction? Just like what happened with XMPP and OpenID

Trains are awesome trains are beautiful trains trains trains❤️🚂🚋❤️❤️🚆❤️🚊. I get a throbbing erection just by seeing a tram. Imagine riding a metro oh god my horny ass would instantly cum the moment I step into the station. When I go home I play a Adam Something video about why c🤢rs (🤢🤮) suck ass and TRAAINS (❤️🚂❤️❤️🚂) are AWESOME and I masturbate to it for hours edging harder every time I see numbers of passengers trains can handle. How can a human being can know that trains are 989769379785% more efficient than c*rs and not instantly cum

Imagine being a train (❤️🚂🚋❤️❤️🚆🚇🚈🚊❤️) conductor 🥺😳🥺🥺. Sound of the train as you push the throttle handle filling your ears like the sound of a whore begging for you to go faster 😩💦💦. Pushing the throttle gently as you whisper dirty things to its microphone ❤️❤️❤️❤️ TRAIN TRAINS ARE AWESOME LIKE TRAIN TRAINS TRAINS

There are more general conversation posts than shitposts in [email protected] If you wanna discuss about something just post it on the appropriate discussion community, not in [email protected]

Half of the """fun""" stuff is extremely depressing. Can someone explain to me how an overused meme about "Big corporations are destroying our world, stealing our wealth and you can't do anything about it" is "fun"

I don't wanna sound like a dopamine addict or a "Commies ruined my Lemmy" type of guy because I'm really not. I would happily take part in these discussions if they were posted on !politics I just don't wanna get reminded of these things while I'm just lurking around and trying to empty my head

Only [email protected] knows how to post properly but even they suffer those same things and they are still not as great as r/196 from Reddit before it was closed

Again my complaints are not about the content, it's great but rather it's about how nothing is categorized properly. If I wanna have fun and laugh a bit I don't wanna get interrupted by doomer posts and if I wanna get serious and discuss something I want an actual discussion post and not the comment section of a meme
