I've modded LED bulbs before. If you set the current down low enough, they'll do this same thing.

When you say click the switch instead of flip the switch it makes me think you are using some kind of WiFi/ZigBee based light switch.
If that's the case then yes that's normal, and would make sense why it happened more recently and only in that one specific room. If you introduced new hardware that runs off WiFi it could be polluting that room and making it take longer to turn off the lights. I try not to let anything running off 2.4 exist in my house.
If its hardwired I don't think I am of any use.
I am using a white switch that came with the lamp that sits on the cord and goes click. I just said click instead of flip because my brain reaches for the wrong word.
My old florescent used to have to "rev up" flicking the swtich multiple times to try to get the charge to stick.
Probably means the lamp has a transformer / ballast component, and there might be some extra power still moving through that. Like the power brick on a laptop, often when you unplug it it has a lower light on the brick, you’ll see the light stay on a few secs.
It didn't use to do this. It used to turn off instantly.
I'm not like an expert, but capacitors and coils (like in a transformer) have a sort of inertia. You can look at voltage and current response curves of these components. Figure 3 and 7 in this teaching material I found on Google shows such graphs.
I've seen little LED power indicators on stuff take a second to go out when you unplug the power supply from the wall. Haven't seen it with a light, but modern LED lights do have power supplies so it's not impossible.
What kind of light is it
Pretty basic standing lamp, no features except turning off and on. (My apartment does not have ceiling lights)
Is it a screw in led light bulb? if so the led driver in the bulb is going bad and needs to be replaced.
Yeah screw in, it might be LED. But I'm not entirely sure. But switching the bulb for another bulb didn't make it turn off quicker.
Edit: Although the bulb started flickering on the other lamp, so I think it 's a bad bulb + something else. Gonna have to go get a new bulb tomorrow.
So the bulb turns off immediately in another lamp? Maybe the switch on your lamp doesn't open fully when you turn it off.
I remembered something else: If you have a switch that cuts neutral instead of the live wire or both wires, LEDs can continue to faintly glow because of induced current. So I guess try reversing the plug on your lamp (if you can, I know in many countries the plugs are not reversible), but idk maybe that's not it.

If it does, but it doesn't when you hit the switch, the switch is broken and arguably unsafe.
It it doesn't, it's the bulb that's causing the delay.

If a new bulb doesn't fix the problem then the switch on the lamp is bad and lamp needs to be replaced. It probably has a standard E26 socket which means house voltage at the socket and the electronics are inside the bulb. I'm not sure what the lamp standard is but sometimes there is a switching circuit which provides a lower voltage to the user knob/switch for safety and uses that to control the house voltage to the bulb socket so there could be circuit board and componants at the switch going bad. Installing a new bulb will tell you where the problem is.
If it isnt dangerous id rather keep the lamp. I can handle a 1 second delay on switching off and the lamp has sentimental value
Not a good sign if the behavior changed recently. If it has always done that it's probably just the design. Ied lamps have an led driver in there and they generate a lot of waste heat at the power transistor and the led itself. I've had a few go bad due to bad thermal design. Had a led pole lamp that fried once and created a burning smell. I took it apart and board had burn marks and melted componants. If it is a flouro, hps or similar might be what hotspur mentioned
no burning smell, and switching the bulb for another bulb from another lamp hasn't made it turn off quicker (Although it has made it light up brighter)
It might be LED? I don't actually know, it was the cheapest bulb in the store and I bought it forever ago.
