"A transgender man could be placed on a female-only hospital ward based on his sex assigned at birth," reported CNN's Ben Hunte. "But here's where it gets tricky: That same man could be barred from accessing a women's locker room on the basis that his presentation as a man could make others uncomfortable."

This ruling is, without any disrespect to the differently abled, completely fucking retarded.

Pretty amazing. If you’re trans and are forced to use your birth sex assigned toilet, won’t that be upsetting/perplexing for the other users? Nobody seems to worry about gay people in the toilets but now we have toilet wars. It’s ridiculous.

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 3 points 18 hours ago

The point is to make trans people uncomfortable in public at all. Not to be logical.

[-] JensSpahnpasta@feddit.org 26 points 1 day ago

That toilet thing is really a brain worm for right wing dudes. Normal people go into a toilet, go into the stall, do whatever their body forces them to do and then leave without interacting with anyone. Some people may also wash their hands or fix their hair. A sexual predator is also able to go into a womens restroom even if it's against the law. And all those right-wing idiots are fuming about trans people - it doesn't make any sense.

Anecdotal but the only time I found a man in a women's restroom doing "funny business" was in the UK. That guy pretended to be a service worker in a theme park. He entered a stall next to a 16 y o and tried to peep through the gap between partition and floor. Fortunately he was quite vocal in his "pre-excitement" and his head stuck out into girl-next-door's stall before he was able to see very intimite parts or do something more...

Edit: typo

Seems like a good way to get a swift kick in the face.

many places have unisex bathrooms. literally noone cares. it's a madeup problem. you know what's a bigger problem? men pissing standing up and missing the toilet bowl. you're supposed to sit down in such places. if it's really gross then just put toilet paper on the seat

[-] You@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

It half-reads as if this (unisex bath/changing rooms) being the norm is the real goal. Unfortunately there's the part where they exclude schools and want every teacher to know which sex was assigned at birth to each student.

[-] Seimhe@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

This wasn’t even a problem. They are “solving” a myth to satisfy an appetite for cruelty and abuse.

[-] Thrillhouse@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

"Many" is wrong here. Our supreme court has effectively ruled that any single-sex spaces - such as changing rooms and toilets - must be used on the basis of biological sex.

Its been picked over by legal watchdogs etc.

Its fucking heinous bullshit that's been passed to placate a bunch of unreasonable bigoted dickheads.

[-] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

There are people whose biological sex is literally ambiguous. Like even doctors doing all kinds of examinations cannot say what their sex is, purely from a biological standpoint, never mind what the person themselves feels they are. What about them?

[-] Thrillhouse@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That sounds a bit too nuanced for the British political discourse.

The mad thing to me is that much of this is specifically designed to stop trans women accessing female-only spaces on the basis that "men" in the wrong spaces is bad because of peadophiles existing (the vast majority of whom are cis men, go figure), but they're now forcing trans men to use spaces which will still cause the same triggering problems, because male presenting figures will now have to use women's changing rooms and toilets, which will presumably still cause the same level of upset.

[-] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Sounds like misinformed bigots. There was a time where the same idiotic pedo association was made with gay men. In some parts of the world, it's still a common belief.

I'd rather they bar sociopaths from politics and running businesses and bar dark money and basically any corporate money from politics. And fucking hang the traitors taking Russian money to ruin the country. I don't care who the fuck is taking a shit in the stall next to me or who is using the urinals as long as they don't use the one next to me, dick or no dick or or artificial dick. I have pee shyness, stay the fuck away from me.

[-] Triumph@fedia.io 13 points 1 day ago

Piss and shit in front of the restroom doors.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Has Andy signaled a willigness to hit the breaks on the trans ateamroller?

[-] JustJack23@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 day ago

No one is going to same the trans community but themselves

[-] oyzmo@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

The article says it won't be checked, so this is just a baseline/norm. More like: we would like you to go to the toilet that matched your birth sex (but if you think that is wrong, it is ok to use the other one. we won't check). I think that is reasonableish, a kind of middle way that work for both "sides".

[-] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

The bill includes that businesses that offer restrooms also must have a restroom for those that do not feel comfortable using their designated restroom.

[-] OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

Except for all those self appointed gender conformity monitors who'll throw a bitch fit if they think you look 'too manly' to piss in the same room as them.

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And don't you dare to ask for free diapers, trans healthcare is too expensive already!! /s

[-] remon@ani.social 1 points 1 day ago
