Same. I haven't bought a phisical game in a long time, but from what i understand is that as soon as you insert a disc, you have to download 20gigs of patches anyway, so the whole thing is just an extra step. A lot of games nowadays don't fit on a disc in the first place. The worst part about the whole debacle is that their argument is that pressing discs, printing booklets, cases, whatever cost money, which is true, but games are not cheaper now. Nono, we just want that money too, thankyouuu
They don't care because they have legions of fans who say "well at least it's not Xbox."
This is how an advertising company sells phones while competing with a computer company. "Sure, my phone runs spyware, but at least it's not an iPhone!"
I don't wanna say "people are stupid," but they are easily misled. And, also, to be fair, Steve Jobs kind of started that bullshit, only releasing the iPhone (initially) on a few carriers, and threatening to spend Apple's entire net worth to stop people from using Android. Steve Jobs also did a lot of dumb and downright bad shit. He was not a nice guy. Most of Apple's biggest fans realise this.
I am unsure how to feel about the end of physical media. Getting less plastic crap produced is great, but we are decades behind on laws regarding true ownership of digital media.
Physical media should only die after the concept of licensing instead of purchasing is already dead.
it's not like physical media these days has any reason to be actual discs, just use SD cards or USB drives..

the "boycott" at the end of this month won't do anything either. People seem to forget this is a Japanese company and when they've made their mind up about something they generally stay the course unless it eventually blows up in their faces at which point they'll apologize and someone will resign. But make no mistake they won't roll it back.
There's countless examples of this. Square-Enix, Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, etc, etc, etc. All have made absolutely brain dead decisions, they stayed the course, may not have worked out, but nothing was fixed. just an apology. Physical Media is NOT coming back on Sony platforms. It could potentially result in the death of the PS brand (unlikely, but potentially) and if that's the case so be it. It sucks but it's the nature of the beast. Japanese companies do not roll back unlike American or other Western counterparts.
I mean, Sony themselves had previously announced they were closing the digital PlayStation Stores for PS3, PSP, and Vita consoles back in 2021. The backlash was so great that that changed their minds and kept the stores open. Just last month they finally announced that they will be closing these stores in 2027. So it is not unheard of for Sony to respond to feedback.
I still don't have any hope on this case.
