We have actual adults in positions of immense power bickering over a clearly made-up story about pool vandals, a story that led to an innocent American having his life turned upside down.

He did not take office to govern. Just to make himself richer. Trading and manipulating the markets.

He did not take office to govern.

In fairness, he didn't take office to fix a pool, either.

Just to make himself richer.

The first time he ran in the GOP primary, it was as a stalking horse for his good friend Hillary Clinton. He did not intend to win, just to clean up on gullible GOP donors while inflating his media brand.

The second time he ran, it was as much about keeping his own ass from being indicted by a swarm of state and local prosecutors, looking for some easy wins against a vulnerable high-profile target. Alvin Bragg was the tip of the iceberg, even if Merrick Garland was too cowardly to advance any kind of prosecution at the federal level.

And let's not forget the general seductive allure of becoming a national demagogue. Trump's vanity drove him in both campaigns. His skill at cultivating celebrity turned a simple vanity campaign into an unstoppable movement. And his naked appeal to fascism in a country that secretly has a hard-on for fascists delivered the kind of President that a plurality of Americans deeply desire.

Sometimes these fucks just do it for the love of the game. It wasn't until Trump's second term that he really figured out how to milk the Presidency for all it was worth. But also, he didn't have Silicon Valley riding his ass the first term, either. Can't help feel like the Anarcho-Libertarian chucklefucks running the tech sector have infused the Trump admin with a full on smash-and-grab ethos that his first term lacked.

Absolutely this. He dream was to lose in the same way Hillary did. She won the popular vote but lost the electoral college. If he had lost that way he would have spent the rest of his life yelling about it on his social media companies while stealing as much as he could from his base.

Not just his social media, the guy had a cable network already bought and ready to rock.

And maga didn't put him in power to be effective on these things. The fact that it annoys others makes the wasted millions worth it for the lulz. These are people who challenge each other for lowest emotional intelligence.

This regime effectively consists of two parts: The dementia-addled clown who's the outrage bait for some, and savior figure for others; and the fascist overthrow of America that he's meant to distract from. You can see it in the way that the regime has two modes of operation: One: bombastic, incompetent spectacles (tariffs, ballroom, arch, reflecting pool) driven by the clown's ego. Two: calculated, deadly policy actions (Project 2025) that are patently far too sophisticated to be products of his diminished intellect.

The people behind the fascist coup, like Stephen Miller, are happy to let the clown show go on. It's a distraction, and helpfully contributes to outrage fatigue. Also, it's part of the fascist personality to enjoy inflicting humiliations that their enemies can't do anything about. It's a dominance display.

Neither side of the regime intends to govern, but both would like to rule.

Its so painfully obvious how incredibly bad he is at every aspect of running the country and how all decisions come down to graft and corruption. Its just insane he is not impeached do to his party wanting to protect their own. Which is part of corruption. They have sold themselves out. I have said it before and will say it many times again but conservative voters have to wake up and work on a new party. Republicans have got to go and libertarians are already to soiled by this to. They need to channel lincoln, roosevelt. taft, and eisenhower.

Homie can't even win the war against algae. 🤡

[-] shirasho@feddit.online 1 points 15 hours ago

TBF algae control is stupidly hard. Like, near impossibly hard. That stuff is still in tap water and no amount of filtering outside of distillation or HEAVY chemical use will get rid of it all. Algae grows fast and spreads quickly.

Experts can barely control algae - I wouldn't expect Trump's shitty poolboys to be able to do it at all.

That's not what he's there for. There is an agenda that does not include YOU.

[-] jtrek@startrek.website 2 points 19 hours ago

Conservatives are fundamentally incapable of good government. They don't believe in it. They don't believe in fairness applied to all. They believe in hierarchy. In-groups to protect and out-groups to bind. They don't have good empathy.
