An explosion targeted a Moscow restaurant during a party for Aerospace Forces Commander Alexander Chaiko.

The target of the organizers of the explosion near the "Balzi Rossi" restaurant were guests of a private event held on the restaurant's veranda — "Kommersant"

As reported by the publication citing sources, the party was under heavy security, which likely made it possible to avoid a higher number of casualties. According to one version, a security guard stopped a woman who wanted to bring in a box and stated that there was a gift inside. Suspecting something was off, he decided to inspect the package. At that moment, the explosion occurred. Presumably, the improvised explosive device was detonated remotely.

As a result, a female courier, a security guard, and one of the guests were killed. The force of the explosion was equivalent to a kilogram of TNT, and the device itself was loaded with metal ball bearings, so people on the restaurant veranda were also injured.

The publication's sources also claim that the woman's body was severely damaged by the explosion: her arm was found approximately 15 meters from the scene of the incident.

Weird thing that jumps out at me immediately is, I've heard of Russia using this exact tactic before in Ukraine, but never heard of Ukraine doing it to Russia, either Ukraine has (imo) crossed a line (that line being "suicide bombing"), or (more likely, imo) this was a false flag.

Had it been a drone I'd have believed it was Ukraine right away, but this? Idk.

Ukraine has assassinated high commabd in Moscow before, and more than once. They're especially focused on those involved in crime and terror against civilians, but also high command in general.

There's Russians sabotaging Russia as well, cooperating with Ukraine. If it's a package, could be an unbeknownst delivery.

Very unlikely this is false flag. This makes Russia look weak. For a false flag, if the target is publicity and the public, they'd go for public and symbolic with civilian casualties. This pushes fear and uncertainty into their command stricture. It weakens them.

There's nothing implying suicide here. Bombs are not limbs, can be activated remotely.

Unwitting suicide bombers are still suicide bombers. If you detonate a bomb in your operative's hands you just "promoted" them to suicide bomber without consent, which lets be honest, isn't much better than promising some virgins.

Unwitting suicide bombers are still suicide bombers

They're literally not by the definition of the word suicide.

Ok "murdered by their handlers" bombers, better? Less catchy, seems like a pointless distinction when the "wrong" part is "killing your own people on purpose" and the "with" or "without" their consent part is secondary.

That enough for your pedantry? Still not exactly "cool dude" behavior to kill your ops on purpose.

Yeah because the whole point of the term is the intent of the person holding the bomb which your sloppy definition deliberately erases.

Yeah sure, and "suicide by cop" isn't technically suicide because the cop pulls the trigger, whatever. Seems the only person likely to care about that distinction is the fictional St. Peter at the proverbial Pearly Gates, but technically he'd have to let you in, you got him on a loop hole.

But in this context the important part is "killing your own people to kill others," it hardly matters whether or not the participant is willing in that, it's still not exactly "cool" to EITHER A) Convince someone to willingly suicide bomb NOR B) Turn someone into a ~~suicide~~ murdered bomb is my original point (well and that I'm skeptical this was done by Ukraine), would you like to argue against my actual point(s) or is pedantry your only goal? And did I sufficiently cover my ass this time or do I need to hire a lawyer for this comment thread?

Doesn't suicide by cop also involve intent on the person who dies? If you explode because you're carrying a bomb you didn't know about, there can't be any intent and you're just a delivery person and/or victim.

You call it being pedantic, I call it words having meaning.

Technically their intent was to shoot at the police, not necessarily die.

How do you know the courier was unaware of the contents of their package or the nature of their mission? Could be, or could be they knew full well they were setting up them the bomb (couldn't resist the reference), just not that they'd become a part of the bomb when stopped at security. Could be that they knew ahead of time that they were going to die the second anything went wrong. Could be that they did know it was a suicide mission and planned to sacrifice themselves the whole time. Whether or not they intended to explode isn't anywhere in the article as far as I'm seeing, nor in the post here, so unless you held a seance (or gave them their orders) I'm curious to how you can confidently state your narrative as correct.

In fact, I'd argue she likely did have knowledge of the contents at least, because according to the post she said it was "a gift." If she worked for fucking DHL she'd have said "idfk what it is брат just sign here I have a full truck I need to deliver."

Two can play this game bud.

I just pointed out that "suicide bomber" has a real meaning and I'm not sure why you you're making poorly constructed analogies that don't change the fundamental reality of you just having used the term wrong. Like, what's the game part of it for you?

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 day ago

And how do you know she wasn't a suicide bomber again?

Y'know, we could just not be having this conversation if you wanted, you don't like it you don't have to participate.

[-] TheSlad@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

If it was putin then the guy would've just jumped out a window all on his own

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't forget the self inflicted bullet through the back of the head while falling out the window as well.

If it were a Russian apartment building, I'd suspect Putin - that more his style, especially with the elections coming up.

[-] inari@piefed.zip 15 points 2 days ago

Happy birthday, may it be your last one!
