Well lucky you tbh, they're insecure (it's basically a password that can never be changed and can legally be compelled by the feds unlike an in-brain password), could in theory be used quite literally to fingerprint you, and can't be used with gloves or dirty hands or even sometimes sweat.

I moved away from it because:

  • Too hard for normals (I know, but they won't use it and what good is a chat app without contacts)
  • Pisses metadata to any server you federate with
  • Including matrix [.] org which as the "main instance" you almost have yo federate with, which is owned by The Matrix Foundation, which started as a project at Amdocs before breaking off, which is a Mossad affiliated company that infiltrated American telcom networks long ago, which I don't find particularly trustworthy to have had any involvement with a secure messaging app that pisses metadata that Mossad "totally isn't" spying on (I have no proof but you don't either). They may not be, but it's too close for comfort.
  • In the public rooms there's a CP problem. Can't recommend that shit to friends/family I'll look like a goddamn pedo if they see someone post that before it gets removed/banned. Not fair but it is what it is.

Large files huh? "Large" like "4k videos of blackmail material" large or what are we talking here?

Fedora just runs my large 4k videos of totally not pirated movies just fine, I've never had a file too large to access.

He says (quite clearly) that the reason for the lack of paper products to wick up the semen is because the man drinks his own semen, he goes on further likening this practice to recycling.

I hope I was of assistance.

...hmm you raise an interesting question lol, I didn't think about that haha.

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

Ehhh the federalist papers make it pretty clear that the second amendment and the aforementioned militias were for threats both foreign and domestic. Plus, considering the whole "starting a revolution against what was at the time 'their own' country" thing alone I think they recognized the possibility that they may need to do it again in the future.

Tbf if everyone "wasted their vote" then the "waste" candidate could win, but the self defeating prophecy of "they can't win so don't even try" being so popular is exactly why "they can't win so don't even try." It's an ouroboros of dumbassery.

I mean, it's not like The Whigs had a bunch of internal disputes and split off to join the newly formed 3rd party "The Republicans" who then went on to become way larger than they were in their beginning as a third party or anything, that's why it's still Whigs vs Democrats and always has been, 3rd parties like The Republicans are just a fad since the 1850s, you'll see or whatever.

"Well regulated" in the 1700s sense or "well regulated" in the "I think the government should have direct control over the militia that is supposed to violently fight the government" sense? Because imo one seems more viable than the other.

https://www.cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-Releases/2006/CPSC-Warns-of-Banned-Kinder-Chocolate-Eggs-Containing-Toys-Which-Can-Pose-Choking-Aspiration-Hazards-to-Young-Children

This product is banned for sale in the United States because the toy surprise hidden inside can pose choking and aspiration hazards to children younger than 3 years of age

https://legalclarity.org/kinder-eggs-banned-in-the-u-s-laws-and-import-penalties/

The main concern for safety officials is the risk of choking for young children. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that objects embedded in confectionery can pose a public health risk because a child might unknowingly swallow the item while eating the chocolate. Under the FD&C Act, it is illegal to introduce such adulterated food products into interstate commerce, which prevents them from being sold or distributed within the United States.

So "yes" but also "choking hazard" and "I really don't care that much, they're just chocolate eggs."

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago

Hey I get that reference!

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago

In the US though you're not allowed to include toys inside the chocolate because "choking risk." We all think it's dumb too but honestly it just seems like we constantly have more important shit to care about, we're not taking to the streets for some chocolate eggs.

Minor Arcana #13 - Still loving this series, also loved Fishflies so that's perhaps unsurprising. Something about the artstyle and the spooky small town subject matter just clicks (or should I say Crunch to reference the misprint in Fishflies lol), I hope he keeps it up.

Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees Rite Of Spring #5 - My favorite series right now still going strong.

Geiger #20 - I'm so behind but I'm still picking them up, I'll get back to reading Fallout Man soon enough.

Best Mastodon App? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I'm looking for android, but I suppose iOS welcome for those with iPhones.

I've been using Fedilab, but I have a bad habit of not checking super often and so Fedilab reaches a point where it won't say "load more" and leaves gaps in my feed, which I'd like to fix. Also was using it for pixelfed, but since that acct was deleted for inactivity I'm not using the multi-service function anymore, but multi-mastodon-acct support is still needed. Used Tusky previously but don't remember why I switched (like two years ago).

Been a couple years, so I figured I'd see what people like using these days and try out a few.

List is up! Let's see...

Easiest way to contribute? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Oh neat an OSM community, and I find it organically two days after I decide I need to figure out how to contribute!

Well so my area needs some help, POI data can be spotty but moreso I have a few newly built apartment complexes nearby that (while they're visible on the map,) need their streets named and buildings numbered.

What is the easiest way for me to add this information to OSM? I'm aware of OSMAND+ and Everydoor apps for android through my searching yesterday and I've downloaded both (well I downloaded OSMAND+ when Magic Earth went shitty but just to use as a gps) but that's as far as I've gotten.

I'm primarily concerned with privacy and security, thus the interest in Delta Chat to begin with, but it seems to me that all the relays (at least the ones on the delta chat site's list, that is) are hosted in 5 eyes countries or countries that will soon be subject to the EU's chat control bullshit, or are in India or South Africa (two countries which I do not know about their own privacy situation, though the SA server is a ".wang" which is hilarious.)

Is there any relay that I can sign up for that's hosted somewhere like Norway, that cares about privacy at least ostensibly? Any other list of available relays?

I'm sure "it doesn't matter because e2ee," but assuredly some metadata must still exist, like sender/recipient or something. Unfortunately self hosting isn't an option currently as idk how to do that sort of thing just yet (one day) and also I'm in a 5 eyes country, so I'd have to VPS it somewhere.

I actually remembered this week! But I'm rushing at work and posting this during my morning constitutional so I'm gonna have to do this one quick-style! And I haven't picked up in a while my shop must be so mad lol. Let's see..

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/58363954

Hey Monero people, I hope it's ok if I ask a few questions (and ok that I'm gonna crosspost this to monero.town even though you're phasing it out because the subbed number is higher), I trust you more than the LLM and ad filled search results.

What's the safest way to get monero from fiat anon in Current Year?

  • Buy, say, ETH kyc, and transfer?
  • Hodl Hodl or localmonero or something? (recs welcome)
  • other? Please share preferred

I'd rather burn a few bucks to not get ripped off, if it's reasonable, but I'm open to (I've heard you can somewhere) buy a gift card and do a transfer with escrow.

With Cake Wallet, I rolled a random name for my xmr wallet, would I lose anon if I named it a pre-used screen name(+xmr, btc, etc) and used subkeys? Who all can see the wallet name?

If I do end up with some kyc monero, what exactly does that mean to me? I still use it anon but have to pay taxes or something, or is it like, "now we know who is associated with this acct and you paid your weedman in XMR so now we send you to prison?" Should I have one wallet, kyc that one, and then send it to a second I keep clean, is that reasonable? Can I only accept non-kyc monero to my acct if I intend to stay anon? I'm so very new to this.

I'm really not planning on dodging taxes or buying/selling weed, actually mostly planning on using it as an inconvenient but private cashapp-type replacement (prob have like, btc, xmr, and eth wallets for variety just in case and store the funds as btc and xmr), but I'm privacy minded which is what attracts me to XMR to begin with, I'd like to plan for buying a gun that shoots fentanyl bullets on the darkweb and then in reality I'm paying my friend for watching my cat, or being paid for watching their dogs.

Lastly, is there anything else you think I'm too inexperienced to know to ask, but should be told? I mean consider me dumb, I don't know shit, I'm new to crypto entirely not just xmr or cake.

submitted 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) by ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com to c/linux@programming.dev

So I have two SSDs in my laptop running FedoraKDE, and every time I mount the one used for storage, I have to type the luks password and then my root password. So, looking it up, I found that to not need root to mount the drive I need to add it to fstab.

I added (as was told by the internet since I'm flying by the seat of random stackoverflow help in absence of real knowledge):

UUID=uuid-string-goes-here   /path/to/directory ext4 defaults 0 0

To fstab (and forgot to chown the directory, oops!) and rebooted, aaaaaaand now I get booted into "emergency mode" with root disabled and have no clue what to do.

I think I used the right uuid, it was nvme0p1 (or whatever that drive said the right name was, can't check now!) In any case, I didn't use the uuid of the drive my system was running on, for sure.

Boot hangs on

job dev-disk-by\x2duuid- [Something something]

Edit: Still taking any advice on how to actually not have to use root to mount this drive, though my boot issue is solved and it looks like I have some links to peruse already!

Should I use autocrypt? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I was setting up a new email in Thunderbird (android) and Kmail (because the version of Tbird in the Fedora repo is old and doesn't have the bugfix required for me to add new accts, so I'm stuck until they decide to update it) and I noticed both support something called Autocrypt in the pgp settings. I searched it but got some bullshit about car keys, so I figured maybe someone here would know.

It seems like a useful thing especially for those who claim pgp is too difficult, but I've never heard it mentioned once, and so I'm left wondering why that is. Is it secure? Does using it cause interoperability issues with people who don't use pgp or autocrypt (say some gmail user)? Is there some other drawback I'm too blind to see?

Anyone with any advice or experience using this "Autocrypt" that I didn't think to ask please chime in as well!
