Data entry was actually one of the best jobs they gave my intellectually disabled sister at goodwill. She graded donated books and punched their ISBNs into an online database for resale. They have some pretty awful disability employment practices in regards to pay but she was living with us anyway and it was the main thing she looked forward to during the week. Then she'd spend the money on going to the movies with a care aide on Friday. If she'd actually had to support herself on the money it would've been a mess but in her case it was more just something stimulating to keep her out of trouble. Then she started yelling racial slurs at everybody and got fired and was stuck home with nothing better to do than beat the shit out of the rest of us again so all good things come to an end I guess.
that took a dark turn, she beats your family ?
It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
not anymore
Returned her to goodwill huh
I almost failed out of high school as a "gifted kid" so there were a bunch of meetings and one of the social workers tried to analyze the relationship between me and my mother and I was like yeah nah my sister beating us is waaay worse and that's how I found out a different social worker when I was like a kid kid threatened to remove the rest of us if my mother kept complaining about my sister so anyway the social worker at my highschool told us to just start calling the cops and coached my mother on what to say so they didn't shoot anybody but would just come and take notes and give us case numbers and eventually we were able to leverage that into group home placement. My back had already been fucked up by that point though and idk what happened to it other than it hurts all the time now because she hadn't taken take me to the hospital at the time because of the whole CPS threat thing but getting my tits chopped off did help tho. Still go get muscle relaxers every time a patient fucks me up too.
I don't know where to to find data entry jobs though, I couldn't find then in 2022, 2023, and now LLMs seem to be doing them all.
To a zoomer, the prestige of a job is also affected by how non-demanding it is, ergo data entry is a prestigious job
I dunno, data entry isn't mentally demanding in the same way as some jobs, but that doesn't mean it isn't demanding. You're expected to enter at or above a particular speed, and it can be boring which is a different kind of mentality demanding.
It's not mentally demanding. It is however mind numbing and mentally draining.
I used to be a security guard, which is similar levels of undemanding. You try watching a bunch of black and white cameras all night, you get to the point where you go, oh look, a moth in genuine excitement.
did data entry for 2 months during a break from uni. It fried my brain. I was bored to shit and came home with a headache each day. I was so glad when I was done digitising all documents and was allowed to do some light programming instead.
I reckon I'd be fine with it. I'm built different when it comes to boredom and repetitive tasks. I've just remembered I actually volunteered to do data entry for a historical records website, recently, but haven't gotten around to on boarding because I have other commitments.
I do value your insights though, thank you. Will help me judge when to quit if I do find it tough
Being a typist would be fun for about ten minutes lol
Data entry is exactly as cool as the data you enter
They'd have to hire 1000 moneys instead of just 1 human to get anything good.
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times
To be fair I hear some monkeys will work for literal peanuts
Hire moneys, to make the moneys
Takes hire to makes hire
stonks
You do realize monkeys would be qualified to be rocket scientists as long as they could do math right?
I feel like the people who are down voting this are missing the fact that its litterally the monkeys (apes but w.e) who can do math who are rocket scientists. were the monekys.
Humans are apes not monkeys but aside from that yes
We are the pig, professor. We are all the pig.
I mean no, first they'd need to learn a century's worth of rocket science and centuries' worth of prerequisites.
Also, even if you’re verifiably a super genius, I think you’d probably get fired for throwing your own shit, biting people, and stealing stuff eventually.
So you mean we can train monkeys to work if they work from home?
I think it’s the other way around, but yes.
depends which part of rocketry theyre doing. no one can do everything. someone does combustion stuff, someone does fluid valves, someone does pumps, someone does turbines, someone does tanks, someone does harnessing, someone does electronics, someone does software, someone does aerodynamics, someone does structural analysis, someone does gnc, someone does gases, someone does sensors, someone does payloads, someone does testing, etc. no one has to learn all the math so its not like its really the most complex thing ever, just a delicate dance of cooperation. but yeah monkeys couldnt do it cause they cant talk, even if they understood the math somehow.
