Without Lenin there actually would be no Ukraine
People get really pissed at me when I point out Donbas was part of Russia till Lenin gave it to Ukraine.
It only makes sense in that context. Why would you draw the borders there? Because you were trying to create a functional Soviet republic, so it gets a nice river basin. If the borders had been drawn up in a more adversarial context Russia would have just kept more or all of it.
It's actually much more complex. Donbass had a slight Ukrainian majority, but it was mostly rural. And also Ukrainians were (and still are, however much Ukrainian government insists on opposite) very heterogenous. And also there were (and still are!) plenty of people without clear preference for one of the national identities.
I was under the impression it was more than Donbas had a large industrial sector and industrial workers were the most pro Bolshevik demographic, the rest of Ukraine was mostly small holdings farmers so Lenin was essentially trying to gerrymander Ukraine into being more pro socialist.
It's just impossible to talk about objectively verifiable facts with libs sometimes, pretty frustratingly. Especially anything related to Russia the past couple of years they immediately turn their brain off and engage cocoon mode.
Really fucked up with that one
The process sped up in 2014 when Russia seized Crimea and fighting began in the Donbas
How fucking slimy can you get? There is no circle of hell deep enough for these people.
without lenin this guy wouldnt exist
What really makes me angry me in these rewriting of history pieces about ukraine is the way these nazis co-opt the concept of decolonization for their own ends. It shits on all the actually colonized peoples.
And then stupidpol dipshits point to decolonization activists and say "Wow you sound just like Nazis!!!"
Rosa Luxemburg The Russian Revolution Chapter 3 The Nationalities Question
Ukrainian nationalism in Russia was something quite different from, let us say, Czechish, Polish or Finnish nationalism in that the former was a mere whim, a folly of a few dozen petty-bourgeois intellectuals without the slightest roots in the economic, political or psychological relationships of the country; it was without any historical tradition, since the Ukraine never formed a nation or government, was without any national culture, except for the reactionary-romantic poems of Shevschenko. It is exactly as if, one fine day, the people living in the Wasserkante[3] should want to found a new Low-German (Plattdeutsche) nation and government! And this ridiculous pose of a few university professors and students was inflated into a political force by Lenin and his comrades through their doctrinaire agitation concerning the “right of self-determination including etc.” To what was at first a mere farce they lent such importance that the farce became a matter of the most deadly seriousness – not as a serious national movement for which, afterward as before, there are no roots at all, but as a shingle and rallying flag of counter-revolution! At Brest, out of this addled egg crept the German bayonets.
Vladimir Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion that aimed to scrub Ukraine from Europe’s map.

They forgot 'unprovoked' this time
'Genocidal'
VLADIMIR PUTIN’S ILLEGAL CRIMINAL GENOCIDAL FULL-SCALE TERRORIST INVASION
in a wierd way, ukraine's rejection of its Soviet past reminds me of how austrians try to deny their involvement in nazi germany
even if we accept the bullshit framing that the USSR was this criminal empire, ukrainians were represented in every single echelon of Soviet society, unlike for example the balts who could claim it was a "foreign imposition"
if the Soviets were this evil genocidal empire then you were a part of it too and would be complicit
unlike for example the balts
Latvians were the most overrepresented in Soviet highest offices nation per capita.
that cant be true.
the ussr was ruled by SCARY RUSSIANS like stalin!
Reminds me of that putin speeche where he was like "you want decommunization? good, that suits us just fine, we'll give you true decomunization" since ukraine's borders are completely a product of communism
And it's Mazepa - a guy who betrayed every master he served. It's very telling how Ukraine has no national heroes besides nazis, snakes or Taras Shevchenko (he was fine)
That's what remains, when you scrub every leftist from your list of national heroes.
Ukraine has plenty of national heroes such as Stakhanov, Brezhnev or the millions of Soviet Ukrainian heroes who gave their lives fighting the Nazi aggression. It's just anticommunism leaves you with just a few "questionable" alternatives.
Kryvda
Where the fuck do they find people with such insane levels of nominative determinism?
'Birthday Injustice' yeah that sounds about right wtf
"full-scale"
Slop.
