if being a tankie means you're 100% gay for lori petty then consider me a tankie

that's not what it is? well it should be.

[-] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 9 hours ago

I've not got the room in my brain for all this infighting. Tankies bad and I block them when I see them. Since I'm not an instance admin that's all I need concern myself with

[-] cloudskater@piefed.blahaj.zone 34 points 13 hours ago

Its so funny when tankies call anyone who dislikes them liberals. Figuring out what the word "tankie" actually means was, ironically, one of the things that made me turn away from liberals and centrists. Once I realized that communists had a derogatory term for other, dipshit communists, I realized I knew nothing about communism and leftism as a whole and should probably reconsider what I thought I knew. I still am no scholar, but I've learned a lot in the past few years and I'm really proud of myself. I still consider that word as one of the reasons my political awakening played out the way it did.

So when I see people, especially people who fit it's definition, intentionally muddy it and claim anyone who uses the word is a damn lib, it really pisses me off. Its so disingenuous and just confuses people who are in the position I was, trying to figure it tf out.

Yes, that's the goal.

Yeah, I dipped my toes into marxism and anarchism this year and am about ankle deep down by now. The more I read the more I cringe at people I see here. It is heartbreaking. All that nonsense spewed out nonchalantly like they know everything. It costs you nothing to be nice. And even if you disagree cite something for the others to read on if you think you know it all. And read books most importantly.

i hope mamdani, DSA in NY project works well

will it descend into magical thinking/authoritarian behaviour? we'll see. his bodega project seems like the kind of thing that could really backfire. he just wants cheaper staples but the knock-on effects and management of this project will not be easy

and will the ~~theorists~~ fantasists come out with the usual excuses if it fails?

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 9 hours ago

Tankie isn't a communist invention, it's brittish IIRC ?

[-] Zgierwoj@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 8 hours ago

You know there were british communists? It was a term for people that defended USSR breaking the Hungarian uprising with tanks, hence the name. A modern day tankie even told me that everyone killed by those tanks was a nazi, actually

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah I know.

And of course, everyone killed by glorious leaders is of course by definition bad!! /s

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago

Now that I think of it, I had the feeling Tankies and MAGA had a lot in common and somehow the meme on the bottom there clicked. Authoritarian propaganda.

[-] Susaga@sh.itjust.works 56 points 16 hours ago

To everyone who struggles with their left and right, take solace in the fact you're better at telling the difference than tankies. No, the authoritarian dictatorship with anti-LGBT policies is NOT "left-wing". Just because you call yourself communist doesn't mean you actually are.

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 12 hours ago

If they could read anything that isn't made by dead cishet dictators they'd be very upset right now.

[-] Zgierwoj@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 15 hours ago

Am I getting it right: An unactive mod got de-moded, in their farawell post they say that its fair but also leftist infighting bad and the situation is somehow interpreted by MLs as them being actively opposed?

If that's what it is, its so funny

[-] fullsquare@awful.systems 12 points 11 hours ago

mods of a comm that has "fuck tankies" in tagline have a vote and agree to remove a tankie mod. there are receipts and entire post prepared in advance

at the same time said mod is removed as admin of a couple of matrix rooms. said mod is also db0 admin and seems to like leftist unity as long as it's done her way only. three hours later she wakes up and her next move is to grab another, completely unrelated community and to move instances from blahaj to db0, a community where she was inactive as a mod for months, specifically so that it would be exposed to hexbear. we all know it works very well. it seems like this move was talked about with db0 admins but not other mods of said community.

this doesn't go as intended, blahaj admin steps in and removes that mod from there too. the new community on db0 is also removed, which is something that can be only done by admin, presumably some other db0 admin. then said mod makes second big post, calls blahaj admin a reactionary, steps down as a db0 admin ("voluntarily", somehow i doubt that), moves shop to hexbear (?)

[-] Zgierwoj@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 hours ago

I am a casual lemmy user, what would moving instances specifically to expose them to hexbear entail?

[-] fullsquare@awful.systems 7 points 8 hours ago

hexbear userbase are tankies/campists with extreme brigading habit, this is why many instances are defederated from them. including this one

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 4 hours ago

imagine moving your family to a house next to a waterfall coming out of a sewer pipe

[-] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 minutes ago

This really got me good thank you for the laugh

[-] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 14 hours ago

And also is throwing a temper tantrum trying to forcibly move other communities without having talked to the other mods and implying it's the other mods fault the Com isnt more active, while being the only mod who hasn't tried posting in over a year.

It really reminds me of when my nephew-in-law screamed about how he hates all of us because he was told he can't hit his siblings and started throwing his toys around the room... He's 4.

[-] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

dbzer0 is being lumped in with lemmygrad, of which it's defederated from

what does a mod being demoted have to do with the other instances anyways?

Edit: Apparently they were a mod of dbzer0 as well, which they have stepped down from.

[-] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 9 hours ago

It's pretty fucking frustrating.

But it as entirely a self inflicted wound by said mod.

Fuck tankies.

[-] alapakala@quokk.au 7 points 16 hours ago

shameful.
Agentant should have included us in the sarcastic post.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
